arriflex
What AOA should I be aiming for on approach?
uboats
** depends on speed, and once BLC works, AoA can be reduce by 2-2.5 deg Edited September 25, 2014 by uboats [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My DCS Mods, Skins, Utilities and Scripts | Windows 10 | i7-4790K | GTX 980Ti Hybrid | 32GB RAM | 3TB SSD | | TM Warthog Stick | CH Pro Throttle + Pro Pedal | TIR5 Pro | TM MFD Cougar | Gun Camera: PrtScn |
Robin_Hood
Note that the MiG-21 does not make its approach to the runway at a constant speed or AoA. Russian procedure is to keep reducing speed from the turn to final or so, all the way to touchdown. When you get to the runway, pull the stick to stop your descent just above the ground, throttle not to IDLE, but to MIN (if you retard the throttle more than that, you will lose a lot of lift because of the BLC), and let your airspeed go down. Keep on pulling gently on the stick to touchdown with the stick very much aft and at 260-280 km/h. That's what the manual says. 2nd French Fighter Squadron
Roger Ramjet
Thanks! It should be noted in the manual with big,red letters. Maybe that`s why I`m landing 20% of times without damaging the AC... Excuse my English, please. Buzzles
throttle not to IDLE, but to MIN (if you retard the throttle more than that, you will lose a lot of lift because of the BLC), There's actually a label on the throttle for landing power setting (LND in English pit). :) Fancy trying Star Citizen? Flamin_Squirrel
9-10 degrees AoA with BLC, 11-12 without. Page 54 of the real manual IIRC.
Tango
BLC takes bleed air off the engine, so the engine must be producing sufficient thrust for it to function correctly. Best regards, Tango.
