Can't connect to master server

ValleyOfSolace

Recommended Posts

So... I've owned DCS World for over 2 years now and have never been able to connect online. I was okay with this for about a year and 2 months because hell, it was free. About 8 months ago, I decided to purchase a module for a friend and I but realized that the online service still doesn't work. I looked relentlessly for weeks to resolve my issue; ranging from Uninstalling DCS, Uninstalling Steam, Shutting off my Antivirus(AVG), disabling my windows firewall, opening ports on my router, Flushing my DNS, deleting those network configuration files, sending my logs to ED support, disabling protective features on my router...

I don't know what else to try anymore, so I've decided to air my issue to the community. I thought I could independently resolve the issue, however, I faced a quite rude awakening looking at how long and hard I've tried to fix this.

Any help is appreciated.

Also, things that can be ruled out due to plain obviousness if the former paragraph was read.

Rebooting my PC

Rebooting My Modem/Router

Ticket With ED(They don't handle network issues)

Information that I think is relevant:

Windows 8.1 Pro

Game Version: 1.2.10.32275

Antivirus(AVG Free)

Router: Linksys, Model #:WRT54G

Ports attempted to be opened: 10308/5222{Perhaps I didn't open them correctly, although i've been trying for months}

Photo of my logs>>> http://gyazo.com/fdb8c26670402cd39e2da1fe12bfe0bf

Thank you for your time.

(Apologies in advance if this isn't the place to post an issue like this)

I'm not too sure what you mean, mind iterating?

Also @Devrim,

I appreciate you taking the time, however small it us, to aid me with my connectivity issues.

Hi. No location info on your profile. Sometime user can not connect due to ISP issues - I thought, but it's obvious you've not ISP problem there. And also I guess you've done everything on your PC.

By the way, how you get that error message? You enter username and password and click OK. You get that message in same second, or DCS tries to connect to Master for a few seconds (3~8 secs) and returns this message?

My apologies, but yes to clarify, I reside in the US.

On the topic of wait times for logging in, instead of 3-8 seconds it's more like 30-40 seconds.

I think if you look at the photo of my logs, you'll see something odd that may correlate with my extended wait times.

Yes I've seen it, but I have no technical capability to interpret it.

My last move is checking the network.cfg file located in "C:\users\jonathan d\saved games\DCS\Config\"

Mine is as below:

connection = {
"ADSL 10240",
1310720,
524288,
}
player_name = "Devrim"
server = {
disable_events = false,
client_params = "motd=\"Welcome to A-10C server!\";",
pause_on_load = true,
max_players = 32,
name = "DCS Server",
client_outbound_limit = 0,
client_inbound_limit = 0,
allow_object_export = false,
integrity_check = {
	"Config/Weapons",
	"Scripts/compile.lua",
},
}
ui = {
side_none_color = 16777215,
log_msg_color = 16748544,
side_red_color = 16711680,
local_player_color = 15254784,
other_player_color = 16777215,
side_blue_color = 3407667,
}
client = {
history_size = 16,
history = {
	"37.59.55.207:10308",
	"84.171.85.55:10308",
},
}
chat = {
view_rows = 6,
offset = 0,
}

This sample may not be same exactly with yours.

By pasting this code I mean, did you set your internet connection properly?

The login to master consists of 2 parts:

1) https access to http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com - this part seems to work for you

2) TCP connection to master.eagle.ru port 5222 - this part seems to fail for you, most probably either your firewall or your ISP is blocking the connection (most probably because of the .ru domain).

I believe I opened the Port correctly(5222), however, I will post a screenshot simply to verify whether or not ive done it correctly.>>

Now, if my ISP is blocking a specific port or .ru domain, would there be anyway for me to call them and stop blocking that domain/port?

Or do you think that wont be possible?

Hey,

to check if your home user router is blocking port 5222 with tcp protocol, try telnet command.

You may have to install telnet client from your Win7 sources through control panel.

this is what it looks like on my Mac:

macbookprolars:~ Lars$ telnet master.eagle.ru 5222

Trying 178.33.39.35...

Connected to master.eagle.ru.

Escape character is '^]'.

hello

<?xml version='1.0'?><stream:stream xmlns='jabber:client' xmlns:stream='http://etherx.jabber.org/streams' id='1654819202' from='master.eagle.ru' version='1.0'><stream:error><xml-not-well-formed xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-streams'/></stream:error></stream:stream>Connection closed by foreign host.

macbookprolars:~ Lars$

...the hello is what I typed

if you get some kind of response, your port is open, which is very likely the case as standard routers that come from your ISP or E-Mart only do basic NAT fire walling and are not capable

of filtering outgoing traffic by port and source/destination IP. Some do, if you configure them, but none does out of the box.

BUT

Any Software Firewall on your PC can do that, including Windows Firewall.

You have to make sure that it either is COMPLETELY turned off or that is properly configured to let traffic pass through on that port with that protocol from 0.0.0.0 ( any IP or your subnet in example 192.168.1.0/24 or 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 ) to 0.0.0.0 ( any IP or ED's IP ).

I don't think you have to adjust your hardware router but may have to even deinstall your software Firewall. Some still block certain ports and protocols even when to seem turned off.

Do the telnet test to see if, you can also telnet from your mobile device with many apps while you are on your WiFi. If it works on wifi with smartphone but not from your PC it is your PC causing it.

If it fails on both, then I'd check the hardware route first.

There are many free apps for network basics for the popular mobile platforms. They are pretty cool to have a 2nd device to check things with... for general usage as a networker or home lan enthusiast.

If c0ff is right, it's not important what you're looking at and looking for.

What c0ff said was what I tried to say at the beginning. That is my suspicion. Sometimes some internet users can not connect some pages/web sites for no reason. Actually of course there's a reason, the reason is caused by ISPs.

For example, I can not connect to http://www.combat-helo.com/ for ages. It's impossible for me. I hope your ISP guys solve the problem man.

Alright, so I tested the telnet from BitMasters response(I appreciate your input).

This is what appears after a while

therx.jabber.org/streams' id='3351944314' from='master.eagle.ru' version='1.0'><

/stream:error></stream:stream>

Connection to host lost.

I see you also mentioned my firewall software(AVG Free), so do you think I should completely uninstall it and then attempt to connect or does my code that I posted entail otherwise?

Glad to have helped a you but we aint there yet.

If you don't mind, just for excluding reasons, can you completely deinstall either the module AVG-Firewall from the AVG-Suite or if you have to the complete AV Suite for a try.

If I recall correctly, some with AVG had errors when updating in the past and such.

One could debate on how useful such a firewall is but I am not gonna do that, no I ain't !

... I am not going to ! basta !!

If it turns out to be your Software Firewall, I'd just skip it and turn on Windows Firewall. It basically has all functions port and protocol wise, and even more if you want to mess with it.

It is no good start to protect the system from within the system, the guards must be surrounding the victim and protect it before it hits it.

A Software Firewall is like training the victim some karate so it knows how to defend if someone attacks it. I think it is better to put that external and keep the Workstation sleeker.

Usually a NAT firewall is all one needs for home use and home knowledge, in times of IPv6 that may change dramatically, no one knows yet... LoL that's gonna be a disaster of the finest grade.

I think your AVG web security part of the Suite stumbles over the certificate from the web server, either it doesnt know the root-ca or has it on a Blacklist or just a processing error inside the https checker, something like this is not uncommon and AVG wouldn't be in bad neighborhood.

could that be ? does that suite have a Webbrowser Protection module maybe ???

just curious

In regards to BitMaster,

I just finished uninstalling my AV (AVG Free) completely, however, to no avail.

I've done this previously, but hey, can't hurt.

I've also queued Steam to Verify all of my DCS files now, simply because AVG may have inadvertently done something in the past.

I performed both of these, no different outcome.

In regards to my Telnet Status, did what I post previously seem normal?

When i do the >telnet master.eagle.ru 5222< my command prompt goes blank until i hit another key and the code I posted previously appears, however,

It never says "

Connected to master.eagle.ru

Also, I just attempted a direct connect to my Modem, to no avail again.

At this point, should I simply contact my ISP about the issue or do you think they wouldn't care for such a matter?

Also, does this Tracert look normal?

Okay.. So...I just logged on for the first time..

I don't know what did it, but something clicked.

I'm not sure if this problem will ever return, but if it does, Ill repeat one of the dozens of steps.

I've re logged in three times now, it doesn't look like it's repeating the errors.

Bitdefender 2015 fix

I've had the same problem for a few days. I finally figured it out. My Bitdefender Antivirus firewall needed to be turned off. Once I had done that the multiplayer loaded immediately with a list of all the servers! I can finally get shot down by a human!! :D

i had the same issue, it didnt work even with all AV and FWs disabled, even on the router.

Until I noticed the red LED on my PS3 eyetoy webcam was on (meaning its capturing) for no apparent reason. Unplugged / plugged it back in, light disappear, and then no issue to run multiplayer.

Weird bug!

Edit: spoke too fast, it has come back.

'cant connect to Master' error when trying to do multiplayer, i got all FW and AV down
