Mig21 BIS Cleaner Cockpit Glass / Hud Glass

After seeing a few request for it I made a very simple mod replacing hud and cockpit glass texture for the Mig-21 with one of 4 versions to choose from:

 

v1_50 - 50% reduction in hud glass and/or cockpit glass dirt

v2_100 - 100% reduction in hud glass and/or cockpit glass dirt

v3_150 - 150% reduction in hud glass and/or cockpit glass dirt

v4_clear - Almost full reduction in hud glass and/or cockpit glass dirt

 

This simply reduces the visibility of the dirt in the alpha channel of the original textures.

 

Install:

 

Extract zip file anywhere and Copy MiG-21_Cockpit folder from the version folder of your choice into:

 

Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MiG-21BIS\Textures\

 

(final filepath once copied should look like this:

Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MiG-21BIS\Textures\MiG-21_Cockpit\CanopyGlass2.tga.dds

Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MiG-21BIS\Textures\MiG-21_Cockpit\Hud_Glass.dds

 

if you don't want clearer hud or cockpit glass remove either CanopyGlass2.tga.dds (for canopy glass) or Hud_Glass.dds (for HUD glass) from MiG-21_Cockpit folder.

 

 

Uninstall:

 

Remove MiG-21_Cockpit folder from Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MiG-21BIS\Textures\

Slightly O/T but is anyone working on a "factory fresh" texture overhaul for the Mig? I know people are really fond of the weathered look, but I like the whole travelling back in time thing of sitting in a right-out-of-the-wrapper fighter :)

yea kinda miss the clearer glass now that ive started flying the 21 again in 1.5 =P.

 

I still dont get why they decided to make the cockpit glass dirtier then a Fish tank that has not been cleaned for a year...

 

Just because an aircraft is a few years that does not mean you can hardly see out =P.

 

For example a nice Mig-21 Cockpit cam video.

 

And the glass is Crystal Clear.

They do clean the cockpit glass pretty regularly after all.

The mod still works in 1.5. No changes in directories so OP instructions still valid.

Is this ..\textures\MiG-21_Cockpit folder, a folder or a .zip file???

 

I have a MiG-21_Cockpit.zip file in my textures folder. Can I extract that to make it a folder? then I could use Jsgme to enable/disable this glass mod, and just replace the glass files.

The mod has a MiG-21_Cockpit folder unzipped. If that is placed in the ..\textures\ directory it will be used instead of the MiG-21_Cockpit zipped folder.

So, if you delete one of the files in the unzipped folder, the program will take the file from the zipped folder.

I understand about some sight but I think it should be respected or it's like a "cheat". Here is from the video as you can see.
