Pretty sure he means VFA-103 never flew the "C" varient

Plus the air inlet shape in the picture does indicate it is actually an E/F veriant, not C/D...

Indeed it does, and when compared to the video right at the 4 second mark, viewed in full screen, it is obvious that the model used in the video is the "C" varient, unlike the quoted photo I posted

Which concludes that as I said previously, Jolly rogers never flew the C model.

If this was of the DCS: F-18C the video would have come from ED/Wags themselves.

The external model is probably what you could've expected of the 18C module if it were released in DCS sub 2.0 tho.

And nice short video.

Ah, yes, and addendum to my post above is that it would've been produced by Glowing_Amraam too...which means pure awesomeness

The current map has less details at the Crimeran penisula and Turkey. No streets, no buildings, not even trees. The reasons for that are probably, as you already said, limitations of the current engine, but also legal reasons (Ubi+LockOn vs. ED/DCS or so).

How can a foreign corporation own a picture of a land of a country or part of it ?

Modules: A-10C I/II, F/A-18C, Mig-21Bis, M-2000C, AJS-37, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, P-47, FC3, SC, CA, WW2AP, CE2. Terrains: NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf, Syria

IIRC, the Crimea region was modeled for the Lockon series, which is owned by Ubisoft, and was therefore probably made under contract with ownership of the assets going to Ubisoft.

To include Crimea and not be in hot water, ED would probably have to remake those assets (or get a new contract/buy ownership of assets), which being honest would be a complete waste of money and time for them when EDGE and the new mapping system has been on the cards for the past couple of years.

There's no technical reason why they couldn't update the current map, but it'd add little value to the product and take time away from the new maps.

Soooo... found this on youtube via reddit/r/hoggit

[vidja removed]

Look at the uploader. It's one of Xstounds cracking (fan made) DCS videos.

Because the foreign country owns the satellite that flew over and took the pictures. If I take a picture of you, you don't own it, I do. It's my camera. ;-)

Try publishing that picture, and you might find out differently. ;)

Though your comment, in general, has nothing to do with the situation since it is not a photograph that we are talking about.
