The Dogs of War server is a great place to get into a variety of missions that go well beyond air quake. Come check out what the miz-wizzards have produced. Try your hand at strategic efforts that make use of your tactical handling of your aircraft. No other server has as wide a variety of missions.

 

Ground attack against stationary and mobile targets.

Shipping raids.

Bomber escort and kills

Canyon runs, mountain passes, attacks above the tree line, navigating to distant targets in hidden areas....

 

And yes, a couple A2A only missions and contests, for those that want a break from thinking about missions requirements.

BTW - If you enjoy the variety of missions available on the DoW Multiplayer Server OR even one or two specific missions, don't be shy to post a comment here or at the DoW Forum (Forum Registration Required).

I'm sure the Mission Creators would be thrilled to hear your comments ... especially when they include praise !

Plus there is a ton of interesting and/or helpful content at the DoW Forum (Forum Link Below).

 

Now, if you really like the missions, keep in mind they all take tremendous effort, skill, thoughtfulness and time to create (often away from what could otherwise be the mission creator's private family time)/ Furthermore, significant effort and dedication is often required to operate and maintain the Server(s). Good Equipment is not cheap either.

So don't be shy to consider submitting a small monetary Donation if/when you can.

It can be a one-time offering or regular/monthly occurrence if you like.

ATTN: DoW Admins >> Just in case no one else noticed, it appears TS has not been working (or showing on DoW Website) for several days now (since at least Thursday this week).

I don't know if the Server is also down ... but it's worth looking into whenever someone has a few moments.

its up sporadically at the moment. The 3 main admins are a bit punch drunk at the moment and are waiting for 2.0 to hit release. Hopefully traffic will pick up soon as we all find some more real world time to fly when the snow begins to fall.

To me the main problem with the server is the 3rd person camera. It allows to check 6 way too easily and blind spots are non issue. I also disliked the involvement of AI fighter planes.

I tentatively second this. Personally I never use the F# views once I'm in the air, only to see where I've spawned in on the airfield.

 

I'm not overly concerned about people abusing it during combat-- if anything I think they would be doing themselves a disservice by trying to use it for spotting.

 

But if there's a perception that it's unfair, I can understand how that might keep people away from the server. Worth considering removing the external views for that reason alone. I could certainly live without them just fine.

lol - thats great feedback actually - and easy to fix. To be honest, the 3rd person camera was only active in our missions from a simple, selfish, narcissistic reason. That is to say: we liked looking at ourselves in the mirror and taking screenies/vids. I doubt any of us would have any issue at all turning them off.

 

That said - with the caucuses update we are expecting lots (if not all) of our 20 missions to break... are there any specific missions anyone really wants to see updated or should we just start completely fresh and focus new missions on the new maps?

Might be an idea, if there's time (**ducks flying tomatoes**), to compare some of the mizs to real world missions following D-Day. Too bad the P-47 won't be there.

Thanks for the input. Like d0o0m said, the external views were there only for the benefit of mission design and squad pics/videos. Through the history of DoW they've been enabled and disabled many times and been the center of many discussions. Personally I dislike anything, within reason, that is beyond what the typical WWII pilot was capable of (of course with a few exceptions) and I'd be all for removing external views of any kind. (it would be nice if just the spectator slot could have access to external views, but I'm sure that too could get abused)

 

We've been awaiting a stable 2.0 and hopefully Normandy before pouring too much effort into further tweaking. Most of those missions you see on our server have a LOT of hours on them and unfortunately with the many updates to DCS, a bunch are not able to run for any length of time. Please bear with us, once we have a somewhat stable platform to work with and some proper tools you are sure to see more quality missions from DoW.

 

My free time has been very limited as of late & I have struggled with the question of just letting the server run and checking on it whenever I can or shutting it down temporarily until we have more resources to devote to it. Since I do see people participating while it is up and running I will try to stay the course and have faith that this winter will prove to be a very exciting season for DoW & DCS WWII.

Sounds like a good idea, HH. Be sure to remind us as it gets closer AND we are always open to missions you guys design and would like to see hosted.

Long time no see/hear !!

 

While I am NOT the spokesperson for DoW, I can tell you what "I believe" to be true based on communications with one of the higher-ups. But I am speaking for myself and not on Dow's behalf.

 

The simple truth is that we are waiting for either DCS 2 Full Release and/or at least More Stable systems so that the Mission Creators aren't constantly having to frig with Missions every time there is an Update.

As I'm sure you are aware, Good Missions take a ton of time and effort to create. So having to continuously figure out what's wrong and tweak missions due to updates, can be equally as time-consuming.

 

So as far as I know, this is why DoW is currently offline.

Furthermore, I believe some of the Admins have been busy with their private lives/families etc and simply haven't had time to maintain servers continuously.

 

But Please Do keep an eye open for us. The server will definitely be back up at some point in the near future (I believe).

Plus you are welcome to sign up for DoW Forums to stay up-to-date and/or be informed when the Server will be back online.

Always a pleasure to fly with you. SnowTiger is right on the money with his response. We appreciate everyone who joined us on the DoW server and the years of participation by our awesome WWII community within DCS. I personally reached a point where I had to make a decision about continued hosting of the server. Ultimately it made more sense to bring it down for the moment, re-evaluate some things and see what happens with the sim as we near the release of Normandy. I have no doubt DoW will have a server back up for you to enjoy again no matter who ends up hosting it and you will always be welcome. We do have members still flying on the other WWII servers that remain and we hope to rally everyone together for all of the exciting things on the horizon.

I have a legit dedicated box. Not some home brew bull$hit. It will be up 24/7 with great pings and low latency. I'll run your mission, your way 100%, It will be all you guys... Just to fly with y'all in the interim with until the new stuff comes out. It's a shame your server is down, it really is. If you'd let me pick up the down time, we/you all can keep on flying and I won't cramp your style or impede on your command structure. And biggest plus? Free for the DOW.

I sure have had my problems with lightning strike ruining a MB and 240gb ssd

and having the new MB give me grief but I am now close to having 2.5 be released

and now will only have ONE version of DCSW and not 3.

 

I have not been able to connect to my favorite dcs site in a LONG time, seems

like 2 years now.

 

 

Still cant land a 190 without ruining a wheel or something, but at least I do not die.
