I can't wait to see screenshots featuring fog, rain and snow. I'm very excited about this aspect in particular. Having unlimited visibility is nice but things get really interesting when your target shows up at the last possible moment or having to struggle back home in CAT1 weather with one engine out and a nose-gear that won't extend :)

I could've sworn I asked this already, but my post history shows otherwise.

 

Is there any word on replacing the super dated and flickering missile smoke and contrail effects that DCS has been using since LOMAC from 2003? Despite its importance, it's one of the worst looking in the game and has been that way for over a decade.

Missile smoke specifically and contrails are still using the old system wherein the sprite flickers through different rotations any time the camera is moved relative to the effect. It's a really odd looking effect and has always bothered me. I've tried my best to mod it out but haven't ever had any luck. That specifc effect might be hardcoded or I'm missing something.

 

That something as minor as the flare smoke got updated gives me hope, but it'd be nice to hear some confirmation from a better source.

"better graphical effects" could either include or not include contrails and missile smoke. I hope it does, but won'd be sore either way.

 

That's what we know right now, if I was a gambling man I would bet most all old effects will get looked at, whether this or that gets looked at before the first release of 2.0 is another story.

That post of yours did get me a little curious, and I went poking around at weather. I rarely fly in thunderstorm because my comp is weak but I think we got new much improved rain and thunder sounds. Right?

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

So close I can almost taste it! Oh man....I hope the alpha version is ready by January, but Ill settle for February or whatever. Need to get my BVR skills in order (Im still anxious on mutliplayer servers)

Will it be impossible to land on the salt lake airstrips of Groom Lake with an aircraft?

 

We could land on them back in the days of the A-10C beta, so I don't foresee any problems. We won't know for sure until ED speaks up or release.

hahaha, at first I thought you wanted to make a joke to us...then I noticed your Registration date. DCS 2.0 will introduce a new Grafix engine (Google for DCS EDGE) and will also enable more maps which are even more detailed than the current one...and much much more :D

So I imagine the new maps wont be free? Also is there no user made maps?

 

according to Nevada, it will be free to all peoples who purchased the A-10C as it was in beta, it was a Promis that has been given by ED back then and they want to fullfill their promise.

About new maps (after Nevada)...as they will be modules, one has to purchase them. They are no free Content.

NTTR Will be free to DCS:A-10C Pre-order customers *Details on that will be released closer to NTTR Release date.

 

Normandy 1944 will be free to previous DCS WWII:1944 backers that meet the backer rewards teir required, the licence key will likely be displayed on the Backers rewards page closer to release of the Map.

 

Pricing for these maps have not.been set yet.

 

Re: User created maps,

the SDK will be made availible to qualified 3rd party dev teams, there's info in the first post regarding qualificatiob abd who to.contact.
