LosT_SouL_VL Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Today I received this email from ED : *** Dear LosT_SouL_VL, Someone has tried to log into your account on ED Forums with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes. The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 202.171.253.74 All the best, ED Forums *** As I didn't log into ED untill this very moment I find it strange that someone tries to go into an account that isn't his or her and tries that 5 times in a row... Is this nothing more than a hacking attempt?
joey45 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I've had it done to me on other sites... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Inrideo Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 They'll scan through a user list and run the most common passwords against them to try and get in to post spam. If your username is the same as one that was cracked on another service they may have it on an automated list that tries to exploit the password they already have as well. A 15 minute lockout like that is handy since it cuts down on the effectiveness of brute force attacks.
