Tacview, the ACMI for DCS World – Official Thread

Not really, I happen to remember that some time ago it was said that recording while compressing could creating some stuttering in game, since I had a couple of unusual instances where the game did just that, and I saw that Tacview was recording as zip, I wondered if that could be the reason behind the stuttering. It's even possible I recall incorrectly what was written.

Thank you for your answer, BuzyBee, and since we're talking about compression: can old tracks be compressed via the program? If yes, how? Thank you in advance for your time!

IIRC icons of enemy units used to simply disappear, if they were destroyed. Now I am seeing them remain in place and looking as fresh and alive as the day they left the factory.

Is there any way to get dead units to be represented by dead-unit icons? or barring that, that they disappear again?

In my Tacview, I keep seeing dead (grey) unit icons, when they die... there must be an option you can change for that.

Hi,

Dead ground units (buildings, tanks, trucks) will remain in place but the colour will change to grey. This is an ergonomics decision, to improve situational awareness during debriefing - the dead objects can act as landmarks. Is this what you are referring to?

Hi,

If you replay the TRK file in DCS World, Tacview will record an ACMI file for it. There is no faster way.

HI, with Tacview (1.86) running about 15 minutes into my simple single playter mission my framerate drops to single digits, GPU goes to 100% and GPU fans full blast. Core temp of GPU is 86c, CPU is about 66c. I can reproduce this fairly consistently. Disabling tacview makes the problem go away. 32GB Ram, Ryzen 3600, Radeon 6800XT, SSD. Any tips on how I can stop it from crippling the game? Cheers.

EDIT: I'm not 100% sure that it's even Tacview but I only had this problem since enabling it last week and after disabling it have been unable to reproduce it. I also noticed that with tacview on if I go into active pause my framerate immediately halves. unpausing returns it to previous framerate. I can toggle this and see it happening each time. Does not happen with tacview disabled.

Hey BuzyBee, thank you for your answer. Reading again my question, though, I'm afraid it wasn't very clear: what I wanted to know is if there's any function in Tacview that allow me to convert .txt.acmi files into .zip.acmi files, not DCS tracks.

Windows 10 here - Tacview does not show up in add remove programs or apps.  Any ideas please - grateful.

If you are using the old control panel, Windows 10 takes time to fully populate Uninstall/Change Programs list. It may not have found it yet. Wait a minute or so.

I find it both in the control panel as also Settings -> Apps -> Apps and features.

Something may have gone wrong during installation. I would try reinstalling to get a clean install, and then check Apps and features.

I found out my issue. I'm blind... err well I'm color blind - red-green to be exact. To me the red and grey icons look almost exactly the same. It is VERY difficult for me to see the difference at a glance, at any rate.

Is there a way that I can modify the color of the grey icons so that I can more easily recognize them?

Press the Windows key on your keyboard, and start typing "tac....". You can do this for any Windows application.

Thanks for your comment - it still does not show up.

Perhaps because i installed outside of the default path may have made a difference?

It shouldn't. But I've had that happen to be a couple times before. Reinstalling got everything straightened out, so that I could do a clean uninstall.

Right now it's hardcoded but we will work on making a way for users to choose their own colours for that type of thing. I will let you know!

Hi,

You can do that from the command line:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Tacview (beta)>Tacview64.exe --Quiet --Open:"C:\Downloads\compress-me.txt.acmi" --Save

See all command line options by going to Help -> Command Line Options

@BuzyBee How is the rewrite of the exporter coming along? Can you share any ETA? Cant wait for the improved perf. ty

Hi, there is no ETA currently. For the performance, keep in mind we will be optimizing as much as possible on our end, but there are issues on DCS World's end as well which are out of our control. https://tacview.fandom.com/wiki/FPS_Loss_While_Recording_Your_Flight_in_DCS_World

Hi. We got a crash today within an event with 32 players.

Thank god early in the mission, so we restarted without the tacview hook and the rest went fine. Is there anything I can do to prevent this next time?

Got a crash log too, but there are many IPs from players in it. So I only would share it with the developers.

Hey guys,

an easy (I hope) question: can I have both stable and beta Tacview installed on the same machine? Will they work without interference?

Hi, yes that's no problem! Tacview will by default install itself in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Tacview\ and the beta in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Tacview (beta)\ . DCS should use the one which is installed most recently.

With Tacview 1.8.8 beta 5 ( https://tacview.net/download/beta/ ) you can now customize colors. I have made a small wiki page describing how to do so: https://tacview.fandom.com/wiki/Customize_object_colors

You will want to customize the "Destroyed" color. Maybe to black instead of grey?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but my TacView clock is never matching the mission time, when using our squadron server. I can change the time offset, but the value I have to choose never makes any sense.

What time does the .acmi file reference? In mission Zulu/Local? Or is it the actual time from the OS hosting the server, again Zulu or Local?

Hi, it's the mission time from the simulator, but in Zulu. Optionally, you may change the time offset to match the time zone of the area where the mission is taking place. For example if you are flying the Caucasus map, put Time Offset -> UTC + 4
