DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!

As far as the significance of the F-14. It is easily more very popular than any other plane currently in the DCS world. So it will be purchased in mass...

Not necessarily, not outside the US at least. The P-51d probably has a bigger following for starters. I'm more excited for the Eurofighter and the F-18, mainly because I like to get down low and fast. But that doesn't mean I'm not very much looking forward to this. You're right that sales won't be an issue here. Talk of it being $100 is just madness, a trend has been set and the prices are fair for what we get. Make it that kind of money and new players would be scared away, as would some of us. People with money to burn could always ask to donate.

I would like an early adopters plan. Get early access and some "extra's" (no clue what I'd like 2b honest) for a hard core fan with a higher price tag. $60 - 80 or whatever. Release at $60 which is what the A10c went for initially. Then after a while drop the price a bit.

It's not fair for the other developers to realize that other studios charge more for a product that takes relatively the same amount of work they have gone through.

A fair price for a module is 50 bucks. No more.

In my case, I'll even wait until there's a sales discount. It's not that I don't like the Tomcat very much. It's just that I'm not paying for a single plane more than a full AAA game with way more money invested and with many more employees involved.

My rig specs:

Intel Core i7 4770 @3.4Ghz // Corsair 16GB DDR3 // MoBo Asus Z87K // HDD 1TB 7200RPM // eVGA Nvidia GTX 760GT 2GB DDR5 // LG 3D 47" 1920x1080 // Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS // Saitek Combat Pro Pedals // Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack // PS3 Eye + FTNOIR

Cobra had already stated this will fall in line sign other DCS modules.... I don't know why we are still discussing price???

Will the RIO seat work and be functional? Meaning another player can jump in? This plane the first plane I ever worked on while serving in VF-32 'Swordsmen'. GYPSY PRIDE all day everyday.

i've made similar statements vis a vis cost of this software

what is it "worth" to me? many thousands

if it cost that much - what would i do? i would start saving up

look - i bought a state-of-the-art rig to fly this software, just check my sig -- how much do you think that cost?

in my opinion they should charge $100 at least for each module

respect

I've never understood these price threads where people ask for it to cost more. Do they not teach basic economics in school anymore? ...wait that's a dumb question...nothing is taught in school anymore.

If they charged $100 for it, they would fail miserably as a company. Numbers of sales at a competitive price range is what makes business successful...not ridiculous prices with fewer sales.

So why would you ask for it to cost more if it doesn't actually help the company? Only thing I can think of is some sort of pride of ownership. Bob says, "Man, check out this module I paid $100 bucks for! Isn't it awesome?!" To which Fred responds, "Uh, that's great Bob. I'll just hop in this other module that cost me $15 and fly right next to you in the same sim."

as much needed break from the stupid price argument lets change the topic..

i for one am interested in more important AI aspects, not just in DCS in general but F-14 AI as well.. as complex as aircraft is don't you think AI needs to be upgraded for the plane?..

also we still lack overall AI improvement of DCS planes in groups..

before we get more modules i think its better to have AI that can group planes, analyse strength ratio of enemy versus friendly and initiate some sort of intelligent response..

I loose my interest when i see a Mig29 on CAP and EW telling him of a Awacs 300 miles away, then the idiot goes Afterburner and ejects before he gets to the awacs.. even though no other enemy planes, no escorts etc.. it simply lacks any simple calculation of pros/cons..

for instance, if we get Carrier ops, i would like to see E2 hawkeye patrol on very edge of its radius, with 2 tomcats close-by or escorting, after a contact is made by e2, tomcats can be send to verify target or engage right away if ROE permit.. but if bogeys possibly number more than 4, 6 then E2 with tomcats retreat while carrier sends reinforcements of 6 tomcats..

i'm just making this stuff up as i don't really know the modus operandi of carrier ops and tactical procedures in different situations, but this is what we need to make DCS(combat simulator alive).. unless DCS changes into LCS-lan combat simulator..

for WW2 planes same thing, but here at least its easier to find out the procedure of many planes engaging ground targets, or air targets.. for instance Stuka or Il-2 attacks on ground targets was established, its not like we do it in the game, every plane on its own and end up even colliding with our wingman!.. why not have those commands, .. more so what is missing is AI leader of the flight.. so you can fly in formation but not be the leader.. this is what is missing as it would force you to obey your commander thus learn the proper schematics of a group attack on a target etc..

so pls, DCS, Leatherneck and others..think of AI and group tactics AI of planes before implementing modules.. as great high-fidelity modules can be without making them alive we will just get what we already have, non-functional simulated battle dynamic that does not respond to threats in any realistic or intelligent way..

I am one of those who say, a quality product with the amount of features like we expect from LNS and anticipate from what we (think) we already know, could easily be sold for substancial more than "the average DCS module". But according to some replies in this thread, not everyone is willing or able to afford such higher prices and I fully understand that.

But to expand perhaps the idea of "just to support" the devs for those who have "too much money", what about something like this:

- a regular price for such a comprehensive module, lets say 60 USD

- optional additional gimmicks for +10 or +20 USD = 70 or 80 USD for those who like and can support the devs more

And with gimmicks I mean perhaps just a nice set of stickers ... or ... dunno, just something that is relatively easy and cheap to produce, but which makes the whole thing somewhat unique.

If anyone has problems saving $50 or more dollars in 9 months, I don't think there's hope for you. Start saving a dollar, or 50 cents a day and in oh idk, 50-100 days you'll have enough.

When they want to release it?

And what happened for Coretex designs F-18E?

More than likely they are waiting on Eagle Dynamics to finish the ground radar & mapping mods, as the F/A-18E/F use the same avionics as the classic F/A-18A+ (C/D) hornets, & yes real life as well they use the same avionics.

I think people are just acknowledging the fact that these modules are basically worth more for the sheer amount of work that goes into them. Can't say that i can fault that.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Yet another person accusing others of being 'fools' or not learning at school?

It wasn't meant as an insult to anyone here although I see that it could be taken like that, so my apologies if that's the case. More of a jab at the school system (in the US anyway). But since you brought up fools, it is actually foolish to ask for something to cost more when it only hurts everyone involved.

I think people are just acknowledging the fact that these modules are basically worth more for the sheer amount of work that goes into them. Can't say that i can fault that.

I don't disagree, but that reality isn't limited to the sim business. I'm just trying to expose those that are actively seeking for a price increase in hopes of helping the company to the reality that it isn't a help at all.

And what do I know? I'm not a part of any of these companies nor do I have access to their business strategies or balance sheets lol. But if it doesn't follow these general rules it's different than 99% of business.

With that, I'll stop adding to the derailing of the thread :)

Already thinking about which squadron preference to use when flying your Alpha or Bravo??? I know, me too...

For Alpha perhaps...
