Echo38
Very cool. Can you elaborate a bit on the sources? I own a copy of America's Hundred Thousand, but what's NACA 868, and where can one find the other two sources?

Here is a link to the NACA 868 (there are others online, google if this link takes too long) http://naca.central.cranfield.ac.uk/reports/1947/naca-report-868.pdf Here is the link for the RAF testing http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/japan/RAAF_Hap_Trials.pdf

HeadHunter52
That P-47 excels over 310. But dog gone, look at that 190! I wonder where the 109 plays into that. Echo38
Tagert, did you check if the tests referenced in those sources all shared a standardized procedure? E.g. one hand, pulling X lb. of force, etc.
TAGERT
Tagert, did you check if the tests referenced in those sources all shared a standardized procedure? E.g. one hand, pulling X lb. of force, etc. I don't know of any 'one hand' requirement.. But, most of the tests do list the force required.. and most list the altitude the roll rate was done at. For example, all the NACA stuff was 10kft @ 50lbs. Except for the ZERO which they noted they don't know what the force was. I think some of the RAF stuff was done at a slightly different altitude.. Ill have to check my notes.. I am planing on listing all that in the legend, I just have not got around to it yet! ;) Edited March 8, 2015 by TAGERT
