facetracknoir with IR point tracker: stops responding

Hi, I've got a Delanclip and I'm using it with FaceTrackNoIR.

It works pretty well, but there is one problem: sometimes when I start a new mission, it just doesn't work. In that case what I need to do is to restart the game + restart FaceTrackNoIR.

Not sure whether this is a DCS problem or FaceTrackNoIR problem?

People with the same setup as me, have you got a quick fix for this?

Thanks!

FTNoIR is not officially supported by DCS if I remember correctly.

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

Give Open Track a try. It's still supported, and works fine in DCS.

Here's a link to the latest release candidate. https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases

And here's a link with some setup info. https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/wiki

Download the zip to folder, and click on the octopus icon to start it.

Also search the forums here, and on http://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit

thanks. i'm trying it. it responds fine in game, but i can't calibrate it well. ftnoir automatically calibrates when started or centered, but it seems that opentrack does not do that. i can't seem to calibrate it and it's always really tilted in game as my clip is not perfectly vertical near my head... i'll try and make it work

edit: ahem, after a restart of opentrack it works flawlessly!!! i'll give it a try and report here tomorrow! thanks!

edit2: still need to understand how to make openttrack properly calibrate... but at least it seems like it doesn't stop randomly working!!! :)

Glad it's working for you(kind of)! I'll try to help....

Next to the box where you chose point track 1.1 is the setup drop down button. In there you'll see options for clip model, and camera model(don't forget to input you're cameras FPS). After you enter your clips dimensions, there's a calibrate menu below that. I just measure the offset from the LEDs to the center of my head and use those and start the camera and then hit calibrate. Also, under setup for freetrack, I choose use freetrack, hide track IR. Next choose Accela filter. Next under mapping, as a starting point put your cursor in the blue box on about 90 and 25, and click there. From there you'll have to tinker with settings.

Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining things. It would be really helpful if someone made a good tutorial on YouTube.

Good luck, and keep us updated!

thanks for this. i got it to work, yes. the problem is that it's (pretty much) always skewiff, exactly this problem described here: https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/issues/21

basically, opentrack doesn't calibrate in yaw/pitch/roll like ftnoir does... but it seems like sometimes it does...

i could remedy this via curves, but it'd be a pain, i need to have this autocalibrate...

edit: seems like it's because my keyboard shortcuts to zero/center were not working. seems to work now!!! :)

Glad to hear it!

I've been using a home built version of ED Tracker for a couple of months now because a camera and Opentrack software kills the FPS on my old CPU. I miss not having zoom and side translation on my headset, but the extra 10 to 30 FPS makes it worth it. (Yes, it was that bad).

I saw a github with something similar to EDtracker that uses a more expensive Razer chip/module and does 9DOF just like LED tracking. That sounds ideal as there's no issues with lighting, IR filters or losing track of the LEDs if you turn your head too far. If I recall it was about $50-60 to build.

Main rig: i5-4670k @4.4Ghz, Asus Z97-A, Scythe Kotetsu HSF, 32GB Kingston Savage 2400Mhz DDR3, 1070ti, Win 10 x64, Samsung Evo 256GB SSD (OS & Data), OCZ 480GB SSD (Games), WD 2TB and WD 3TB HDDs, 1920x1200 Dell U2412M, 1920x1080 Dell P2314T touchscreen

That would be incredible! I'm using a 9DOF mpu9150 chip now, but the only movements I get are yaw, pitch, and roll(and it's very smooth, your PC thinks it's a joystick). I know the guys that came up with ED Tracker did it for Elite Dangerous originally. Hopefully they go for the other 3DOF.

Can you put up a link to the Github file, please?
