Welcome to the discussion thread for my single player/co-op F-15C campaign "An Eye for an Eye." This campaign is a perpetual work in progress, but I expect things will be stable at 1.9 for some time!

This story-driven campaign was designed to be appealing to players of varied skill levels; specifically, I made this campaign to play with a couple friends of mine who are new to realistic flight sims. The first couple of missions will be very easy for experienced pilots, but there should still be enough going on to keep things interesting, and the challenge level will ramp up as the campaign progresses.

The entire campaign has something of a "diet realism" approach. Instructions from mission controllers will not contain a lot of military shorthand, apart from the obvious things that everyone picks up after playing for a few minutes, so that new players will still have an idea of what's going on. There's also some casual radio chatter between pilots on some of the longer flights, to pass the time and progress the story. Loadouts of friendly and enemy combatants are occasionally tuned to create a desired difficulty level (especially in the earlier missions.)

I understand that these kinds of things are not appealing to some of the more hardcore simmers out there, but I'd like to think that the story and missions will be entertaining enough to forgive any technical mistakes I've made either unknowingly or deliberately.

That being said, if something someone is saying or doing is grossly stupid or just plain incorrect, please leave a post and let me know! If it's something I can fix without compromising the structure of the mission/campaign, I will likely thank you heartily and make the change!

Installation Instructions (nothing unusual, just posting these here as requested for new players)

As this is still a work in progress, I have not formatted the missions to be playable in campaign mode as of yet.

They are, however, very much playable, and the missions that are currently posted have been pretty thoroughly tested in both single player and multiplayer.

The easiest way to install these, is to download the .MIZ files directly into c:\users\YOURUSERNAME\Saved Games\DCS\Missions

Open DCS World, and click the "Mission" button.

In the top left corner, click "My Missions"

You should see the missions in the menu. Simply click on the mission you wish to play to highlight it, then click the "Open" button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. If this didn't work for some reason, you can just manually navigate to the files from this menu as well. The "My Missions" button is just a quick link to the directory I mentioned before.

At this point, an overview of the mission will pop up with a summary of the weather, as well as the political and/or military situation. Click "Fly" in the bottom right hand corner and the mission will load.

Once the mission loads, choose the appropriate role (SINGLE PLAYER if you're by yourself; this will spawn an AI wingman for you) and click START.

You'll pop into the cockpit of your F-15, and the full briefing will appear. Scroll down to the TASK: portion for the military assignments for that mission. In later missions, the YOUR TASK: portion will detail your flight's specific...well, task.

Have fun and thanks for playing!

Thanks, Zorpa!

Be sure to check back before you start, as there will likely be more content by then!

I think, going forward, I will refrain from pasting "beta" versions of the missions here beforehand unless somebody particularly enjoys watching the missions evolve. Expect phase one of the campaign, featuring missions 1-4, at a full 1.0 release some time in the next 8 hours.

After that, I will begin focusing on phase 2 which will feature more offensive action, as opposed to being primarily about reacting to the situation happening around you as the previous phase has been. I'm not sure what kind of time frame we're looking at for phase 2, but I'll post updates as I continue working.

As always, thanks for playing! See you on the flight deck. :pilotfly:

Just finished the first mission (it's called C2M2 an eye for an eye , i assume you changed the name?I must have downloaded it right before you updated your first post.) where you have to intercept mig 21's, enjoyed it very much! I'm pretty new to the f15 and dogfighting in general but managed to do it on the first attempt (single player).

It may be somewhat boring of an engagement for people who are used to dogfighting other F15s and SU27s online but for me it was exhilarating! Great work. I really love these "realistic" scenarios where you're not asked to be the fighter pilot equivalent of John Rambo.

Going to download the other ones now and play them :) !

EDIT : I just played mission 3 (technically the second on in this thread), I was unable to finish it but i did enjoy it quite alot while it lasted , that mig 21 was great for formation practice (damn those things can turn pretty well O_o.. i wonder if that's just an AI thing becouse i heard that it doesnt turn well at all). I will try it again tomorrow , hopefully in Co-op.

On a little side note , the mission crashed my game once due to an out of memory error (i have 8GB ram) , i had to shut down all my background programs like steam and try it again , at wich point it worked fine again. This may be completely unrelated to the mission or it may be becouse of the sound files or something.. i don't really know alot about that kind of stuff , just thought i'd point it out.

So far the campaign feels great , and the voice acting , while a little cheesy is really good.

Hey McBlemmen! Be sure to redownload M2! It, as well as all the other missions are now fully voiced, and there were some performance and flavor tweaks to M2.

Glad to hear you had fun! I designed this campaign to play with a couple of friends of mine who are relatively new to flight simulators, so I wanted to start things off manageable. The MiGs are easily outclassed by the F-15, but if you miss your opening shots (and when you replay M2, you'll see that's now a much greater possibility!) they can still give you a run for your money.

To answer your question with information I foolishly removed from the first post haha...

This campaign was inspired by the Flaming Cliffs 2 mission called Justice, which I found buried in a DCS directory when I was snooping around, along with a bunch of other stuff that didn't pop up in the instant action or mission menus. It involves intercepting a civilian jet allegedly carrying a terrorist, then either shooting it down or forcing it to land at a friendly airbase in order to arrest the terrorist. These missions assume that the plane did not divert and that you were ordered to shoot it down.

I am in the process of designing and recordings VOs for my own version of this mission to include with the full campaign, but sadly RL intervened today and I wasn't able to get it finished. I hope to get it done tomorrow though and start work on the next phase of the campaign.

Yes , i'm sorry. I edited the part about mission 1 out becouse i failed to read your post stating it was still WIP. But your reply was faster then my edit ^^

Oh and yes i did replay M2 with the updated version , just to hear the voice acting :)

Really glad to hear from someone having fun with these!

This is my first attempt at personally doing any kind of voice work, so I will take that as a huge compliment hahahaha!

As far as your crash, civilian traffic is set to "high" since you're potentially doing some low flying over populated areas on the way out. It looks cool, but it does suck up some extra resources. If you open the mission file up in the ME, select "mission options" which looks like a little check mark on the middle left toolbar, and set civilian traffic to "low" or "off" if may help you out, should you have repeated problems.

EDIT: ....oh yeah, and there are a few dozen ground units..which are the much more likely culprit. Let me know if you have troubles with M4...I can make a "I did not spend $2384529342389 on a PC, you a-hole" version :smilewink:

Thanks again for playing, and check for updates soon!

Just finished C2,C3 and C4 with a real player wingman , loads of fun! It took quite a few tries but it didn't bother me becouse the formation flight is fun before the fighting starts.

If i can make 2 suggestions though : in M3 where you have to escort the mig 21 , the Mig turns really sharply. I dont know if this can be changed but i think setting its waypoints to "turn at point" instead of "fly over point" will fix this. And on C4 the C130 was flying so slow during climb out it was almost impossible to stay in formation with it , even with flaps deployed.

These are in no way big problems but may improve the already great missions ever so slightly :) Can't wait to play more.

Mission 5 is up!

Hey all, mission 5, entitled "An Eye in the Storm" is now online!

This will be a marked step up in difficulty from previous missions, but should still prove manageable to newer pilots.

As you may have guessed, weather and high speed maneuvering feature prominently in this mission!

As always, thanks for playing!

Please leave any comments regarding bugs, or general feedback about the missions here!

Mission 1 is based on an old FC2 mission called "Justice" which I found in a missions folder not accessible by the instant action or campaign menus.

In the original mission, the pilot's behavior was randomly determined at the start of the mission. Sometimes he would comply, sometimes he would refuse and maintain radio silence as he does in my version of the mission, and sometimes he would comply after being damaged.

For the purposes of moving the story forward, I eliminated the favorable outcomes in my mission. Which you'll see when you play more!

Mission 6 is live!

Hey everyone!

I've just uploaded Mission 6, entitled "A Kick in the Teeth," for your enjoyment!

This mission takes place about an hour an a half after the end of your previous engagement. The storm has passed, but the skies are still windy and overcast.

You will be escorting three GAF Su-25Ts as they attempt to weaken enemy air defenses around Zugdidi.

The SEAD flight has been a little problematic, in that they will occasionally bug out even if one or more aircraft is still capable of completing their task. It is definitely possible to complete the mission, but it may take a couple tries if the 25s take a beating early on.

If anyone has any suggests on how to get them to be a little more stoic without completely disregarding threats, please let me know!

Please leave questions/comments/concerns etc. here and as always, thanks for playing!

Quick fix!

I don't think anyone downloaded the mission before I caught this, but there was a warning still being triggered incorrectly after the mission was complete; this is now fixed.

I can also again verify that while this mission is very challenging (at least for me ) in single player, it is definitely possible! Make sure when and if you cross the border, you keep your head on a swivel. The enemy pilots seem to be smart enough to try to drag you down into the SAM sites, and if you aren't paying attention while you're tracking your MiG they'll happily give you a little extra ventilation in your cockpit.

Mission 7 is up!

Looks like I'm finally getting out ahead of you guys a little bit :joystick:

Mission 7 is now live!

Entitled "A Wrench in the Works" this mission focuses on interception of an inbound Abkhazian strike package, which is targeting the Georgian ground forces as they attempt to regroup.

A little advice- Abkhazian airspace is significantly more dangerous than in previous engagements. Be very cautious about crossing the border to engage the strike package. It is best not to stray beyond known threat zones or you may find you've bitten off more than you can chew.

As always, thanks for playing!

Keep 'em coming!

Played the first 3 Missions by now. All really well done. Lot's of voice work and great atmosphere.

Very nice patrol in the third mission, with the Mig-21 getting blown up right in Front of you, very movie like.

Thank's a lot!!

Hey Comes, nice shots, especially that first one! Eventually I'll get around to recording some tracks and attaching some proper pictures to these haha, these are a great reminder to stop being lazy and do it.

Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself so far! I went back and forth on whether to script that MiG death in 3. He was pretty much guaranteed to get taken out, but eventually I decided it was worth the slight cheesiness of the scripted death to be guaranteed the eye candy of seeing him flame out right on your wing.

I figured since most people are playing with labels off anyway, they wouldn't necessarily notice the absence of a missile launch, and it's totally plausible that one of the 27s could have stuck his head up and popped off an ET when Daviti gets the second RADAR tickle.

4/6 Update

Hey all!

Looks like people are starting to catch up to me a bit, so I wanted to pop in with a quick update on campaign progress.

Some time within the next couple of days (I hope) I will be updating all of the missions.

There will be some minor fixes to mission 4 (adding a bug-out condition for victory, correcting a potential early spawn if players fly ahead of the C-130) but for the most part, this will be clerical. I plan on adding proper background images for the missions, and including the version number in the sortie field so that people aren't guessing if they're playing the most current version.

This will probably happen at the same time as mission 8 goes online, which will bring the second phase of the campaign to a close.

Thanks for playing, and in the meantime, I'd love to hear some more feedback from people playing the missions! So far it has been invaluable in finding bugs I might not otherwise notice, and generally streamlining mission performance.

Hey Zionid, thanks for downloading, let me know what you think when you have a chance to play it!

I am shooting for somewhere in the vicinity of 12 missions. Though with the can of worms I just opened in 8, we'll see if I can get it done that quickly.

I am making final tweaks to mission 8 now before releasing it into the wild, along with updated versions of all previous missions. Voice work is done and imported, triggers are all defined, just have to make some final timing tweaks so everything feels right. Unfortunately, the scenario takes about 50 minutes to run to its completion without player involvement so this phase has been quite lengthy!

Finally got things behaving the way I wanted them to if the player doesn't involve themselves, now I just have to get it set up so the player can make a difference haha.

As I mentioned before, these updates will be 90% clerical. Version #s and background images. Couple of minor fixes to mission 4, but as long as you don't fly past NAV2 10 minutes ahead of the C-130 there is no issue with the timing in the current version. When I was playtesting with one of my friends, though, he did just that and it threw the whole tone of the mission off, so it's getting patched :)

Testing have started. Solid 1st impression. Good writing, clear instructions, nice with voice commands, although my AWACS sounds like a serial killer;)

The only "gripe" I have is that the skins that appeared in m1 seem to be a non-standard USAF variant (Agressor scheme?). So I changed that myself to the 493sqdn.

The missions also appear to be without a briefing map/showing routes etc- which can be very nice for planning etc.

Other than that- off to a very good start. Will provide more feedback when a few missions in:)

Mission 8 is live!

Hey all, as promised, mission 8 is now live, along with updated versions of all previous missions.

Thanks for playing!

EDIT:

Also fixed the skins on all missions.

It was a leftover problem for the very first mission I put the plane in, then copied to all subsequent missions. Ha!

As for your routes, look at the "mission planner" button before you take off to see a view of the battlefield with your routes. You can also adjust your armament from here if you wish!

2ND EDIT:

Though you probably know that, since you changed your SQN.

It didn't occur to me that this screen is not accessible in multiplayer, however. I'll look into taking a screencap of it and adding it to the background image when I do the next major update. Alternately, I could include a seperate .zip file with briefing images if people want them on a tablet etc.

With regards to the Overlord VO, you're the second person who has told me it sounds like a serial killer.

Such are the hazards of one man trying to sounds like many! Things get even more ridiculous when I'm trying to be Georgian, or in mission 8 when I'm trying to sound like about 16 different people. Bear with me ;)
