Depending on the modules you want to fly. For props and helicopters pedals are a must. For the jet engine planes you can get away without them. I would assign the trim hat for rudder control in that case.

Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.

I would say pedals - with toe brakes - are an essential.

I have a set of Saitek combat pedals, and a broken toe brake. I put my name down for a set of MFG Corsswind pedals when they broke back in October. I'm still waiting, though I expect I'll get them soon now.

Pedals aren't a luxury they're absolutely key to getting decent control. That missing toe brake is a real problem when it comes to tail draggers. On/Off is absolutely no substitute for a nice progressive application of a brake. Try driving your car (on a completely deserted highway with only you in the car of course) by stamping on the brake and either having it fully on or fully off, and you'll see what I mean.

Can you cope without pedals? Probably. Would you ever go back to keyboard control after you have pedals? - Hell no!

Pedals! It's almost a no-brainer. And when you use a quality stick like the Warthog I don't see why one should settle for less quality for the pedals. I got my MFG Crossind v2 pedals in the beginning of the year and I totally recommend them.
