mvsgas Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Lol ya so much for un improved airfield operations. Lord I hope dcs 2.0 fixes this Fix what? Just because an aircraft can operated from unimproved field does not mean he can taxi on any ground. The ground has to be pack and be able to sustain the weight of the aircraft. Dirt, grass or other airfields still have to be able to hold the weight. During Oshkosh EAA Air venture 1999, we park some F-15 and A-10 on one of the closed Runways, they where asphalt. We had to put ply wood under the tire to try to keep them from sinking down, that still did not work. We had a Howard 500 almost got stuck in one of the parking areas, we had to use a cargo strap on one of his main gears to rotate him enough so he could taxi out. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
mvsgas Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Get the ground crew to fire up their tractor and pull me out of this turf! WC If that happened in real life, IIRC, it would need more than just the tractor, might need the whole crash recovery team, some cranes and a lot of work. http://www.dm.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123424307 To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Wrecking Crew Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 That screenshot was after a repair and unload of all weps and fuel. It was my intention to not foul the runway at Vaziani. Its a well known problem Currently in DCS World, The Sticky Ground issue. Affects all aircraft and well it shouldnt in certain situations. Vampyre Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Its a well known problem Currently in DCS World, The Sticky Ground issue. Affects all aircraft and well it shouldnt in certain situations. mvsgas is totally correct. Most unpacked ground cannot support the weight of an aircraft and the tires sink into the dirt. A crane is needed to extract the aircraft when this happens. I know this because one of my Hornets got stuck in the dirt while being positioned at compass rose in Lemoore. As soon as the tire left the concrete it sank to the axle and could not be moved without the use of the crash crane. This is not a problem. It's a feature of DCS. Here's some pics... I can't seem to find any of smaller aircraft being stuck but it does happen. Planes are not even safe on asphalt: 1 Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills. Solty Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Its a well known problem Currently in DCS World, The Sticky Ground issue. Affects all aircraft and well it shouldnt in certain situations. That is not true. All WW2 warbirds are capable of taxi, landing & taking off from the grass [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]In 21st century there is only war and ponies. Vampyre Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 That is not true. All WW2 warbirds are capable of taxi, landing & taking off from the grass That is true too, WWII aircraft are very light when compared to more modern warplanes. Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills. If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! "If at first you don't succeed, Carrier Landings are not for you!"
Djent33 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Also the planes that come to rest or just sit on a runway for some 90 seconds could be towed away. The runway maintenance crew could also remove the canopies and other crashed pieces to avoid crash pile-ups. After all “you are cleared to land” sounds better than “you are cleared to crash“. In case where a pilot disregards ATC takeoff/landing clearance and chooses the "neglect" route as the way, then such pilot looses the ground crew COMs for refuel and rearm which would make it fair for the duration of the mission. (fratricide law = runway law in this theory), pot holes on runway, 3-10 min per hole may work,. missile works the runway should. WOW asphalt WOW. wowowwowowo tire vs concrete.
