slowly becoming my preferred ww2 module in DCS...

Recommended Posts

My wings hit the ground and I crash. I tried to upload a track, but even trying to change

its name, it says I have already done so in another thread. 90 percent was what

I named the thread.

I do have a very bad problem of keeping the dora going straight down the runway.

I tap on the right brake a lot and have my right rudder pedal slightly forward

and if I try to have my joystick to the right, my right wing hits. If I keep it

straight back, the left wing hits.

here is the link to the thread with the track.

I listen to what people tell me and Ive tried and tried.

I just dont get it !!!

Ok,

I watched your track. The main problem is that you aren't keeping your takeoff run straight enough. When you start swerving too much, even if you get airborne you're going to stall immediately, as in the track, since you didn't gain enough airspeed.

It looked liked you only used the brakes for directional control and no rudder. I would advise the exact opposite. I find using the brakes makes left or right corrections too sharply and leads to more swerving and over-correction.

Try lining yourself up straight and in the middle of the runway. Once your ready, don't touch the brakes again. Input about half right rudder ( I use a curve of 30) and then throttle up to about 2600-2700 rpm, don't slam the throttle up too fast. You have to be really sharp on the rudder to keep the plane rolling as straight as possible. Remember that you will gain more rudder authority as your speed increases, adjust accordingly. If you over correct to the right, don't rudder left since you will most likely swerve too much, just let the engine torque pull you back to the left. Once you see the plane want to lift off, let the stick drop a little and make sure you don't start buffeting and stall as you lift off. Your stick position in the track looked fine, maybe keep it a little more to the right.

Hope this helps. :)

OK, I just was able to take off twice in a row !!! Not saying it was pretty, but it felt so

good to at least accomplish it !!!

I did a 30 curve on my joystick pitch and a 23 curve on the roll and it really helped !!!

My joystick was just too sensitive to my movements and now with not hitting the

brakes and just easing the throttle forward to gain speed, I do get airborne !!

Need a lot more practice before I try it with multiplayer, but at least I feel better now !

Thank You !!!!

Your welcome! :)

I remember when my takeoffs all looked like your track, and I was really happy when I discovered my own strategy for getting airborne.

For the 190, it's all about controlling that massive engine torque. If you stay happy with that technique and practice it some more, I'm sure you'll get nice and consistent. :joystick:

I think back of my first flights with the stang and I had a lot of problems, and

that was with all the assists on too !!! I eventually got so I can take off and

land very well. Now while my skills at taking off with the dora are very poor,

my landing skills are just as bad.

Its not easy to practice landing, if you cant take off !!! LMAO !!!

There are so many videos of others that make it look so easy, especially

the one where there is so much fog, you cant see a thing.

Thank You so much for your help, I really appreciate it very much !!!

Yeah, I don't know how those guys do it so perfectly.

I still mess up my takeoffs and landings with the Dora sometimes. I find the Dora takes much more concentration for everything.

My tip for landing: when your going slow in the Dora and gliding in for a landing, try to move the throttle as little as possible. The changing torque really throws the nose around and can leave you coming in crooked or missing the runway to the left or right.

I want to thank all of you so much for all of your help.

Today I had a personal lesson on a private server that iFoxRomeo

had set up and while I did crash twice, I was able to take off three times

on a server, and that has never happened before.

I cant even begin to say Thank You enough to iFoxRomeo for

taking the time to help me out and just sit on the runway watching

me and coaching me and giving me hints via ts3 client and enabling

me to gain much needed confidence and for just being an all around

really nice guy. Seems like I get more nervous when someone is

watching me and that was a small problem on servers as opposed

to single player. I also did a 29 curve on my pitch and 23 curve on

my roll and I think my joystick was too sensitive and I kept lifting

my nose too early and stalling and crashing to the left.

I mostly had gone to 25, but now I just go full throttle and dont use my brakes.

Thank You so much iFoxRomeo, and all of you that made it possible for me

to finally get a handle on what was causing me grief, now to just practice

what ive learned. The weather here got hot today, and even though

I am water cooling my system, I got a watchdog blue screen shutdown

right in the middle of a lesson and had to call it a day. WDE's are something

that can be caused by so many things, but it does not happen that often.

I love the Dora and may now also have a better chance with the K4 too

******************************************************************

Im back, and I have taken off in MP several times now in the dora and not a single crash ( except when looking for flaps button and nosed in after wheels were up )

I even applied what I learned to the K4 and took it off twice in a row with no problems and the Dora had the 500 PD bomb too ! That was a first !!!

Only time will tell.

Its sorta funny, I started to get really good at taking off the Dora, and then I bought

the Mig21 and spent days flying it and learning different things.

I felt that after a few days I should go back. I went on MP and three times

crashed the dora in a row, so I went to SP and then after a few attempts

I was able to do ok. I thought that a "repair" had changed my joystick settings

or something and lo and behold, they were still set up well.

Its hard to believe that after just a few days, I could digress this much in

my abilities. It is not like riding a bicycle I guess.....You have to practice !!!

I experienced the same going back to the Dora from the 109.

I've probably taken off several hundred times in the Dora by now but sometimes I won't be focusing on the takeoff and something will get out of hand pretty quickly. I think I've taken off and landed every plane successfully that I've gotten in DCS the first time but get around the 4th time (getting comfortable) something goes wrong. You have to keep your concentration and focus almost 100% of the time with the Dora/K4 or they will kill you. If you got a hotas I'd suggest mapping the landing gear, flaps, and auto gov(K-4) so you don't have to mess with those functions on takeoff/landings.

The K4 was for me, by far, the most difficult to learn on takeoff, and landing...

One thing I did was taking off at 1.4 ATA - never full power. Also started setting itch trim to 1.0 with that power settings, and had no problems thereafter...

Time to work on landings, good thing there is so much great stuff on here to read !!!

Thanks Fast Fred, I appreciate the advice. Taking off is easy when you do it right and pay attention and

its so weird the amount of time I spent so frustrated to all of a sudden because of some great help, I

just did a 180 change. Well, now its 95, but I will get it back up to 180 again !!! LOL

I played MP today and only had one bad takeoff and did really well.

as long as I keep my mind on what Im doing, things are ok.

Sure makes me happy to be able to play in MP and finally be able

to take off with no problems like in the first 100 attempts.

Im learning land better, but have a lot of work ahead of me !!
