Open Conflict - Server Information

Mirknir

Recommended Posts

Yesterday had my worst open conflict day ever.....

-TK'ed a poor ally after having no diamond appear on IFF interrogation !!???!!!???

-Got a kill shot on a mirage that tried to brake in front of me "a la top gun". Ended with a "clic clic" on the gun trigger : forgot that god damn gun master arm.... Took an IR in my ass the second after this :( :( :(

Still learning........

I think some aircrafts have to activate their IFF or they will never answer IFF interrogation and appears as enemy to everyone.

.

Yes, the M2k requires IFF be switched on. It is not on by default. The switch is in the top right of the right hand console. Also, it sounds as though you did not have your missile warning system switched on either.

I cannot recommend Chuck's Guide highly enough. It is the first thing I download for any new aircraft.

Cosmic you cant post stories if you dont play anymore! I dont even know who you are you have disappeared into the darkness make me so sad:cry::cry::cry:

Anyway, while cosmic has been ignoring his fellow veteran family I have some scrrenies to fill the void.

Some are a little older as i take screens to post them but end up having too much fun and wind up still being on OC when "the general" comes home have to leave in a hurry.

Most days start out with the warm morning rituals of escorting Bert in his A10, which then turns into him escorting me with his A10...

Others are filled with rotor fury raining down death and destruction to communist pigs at various objectives across the map.

And yes the F5 is still getting some love, taking advantage of the modern fighters with its agile maneuverable self.

Anyone know about this? Any aircraft actually have to switch on their IFF?

It might be something I can track and warn the pilot about.

I dont believe any aircraft has IFF modeled to the point of it requiring to be on to appear as friendly or enemy. I do know there is/was a really strange repeatable bug with m2k IFF (not sure if it was fixed in the latest patch it may have been) but there was some glitch that if u switched to 530 then CCM then 530 again (or some combination of that i cant recall as i have not had it happen to me in quite a while) the IFF would not interrogate any aircraft as a friendly.

The easiest way to see if you IFF is working without having to look down at the switch in the heat of combat is just mashh the IFF button then look for the dashed ARC that appears on your radar scope showing the interrogation check. If you dont see a dashed line then your IFF is not on.

Also be careful flying around in CCM without being on coms as its very tempting to just get the autolock and fire in a merge without announcing a raygun, I have taken down a wingman a time or two with that bad practice lol

I have been flying exclusively KA-50 lately and FINALLY I'm at the point where I can pretty much control the thing and make sense of the various autopilot stuff. less bobbing and weaving all over the place, more controlled turns - I even went on Flight Director mode and manually flew through valleys along the river bed on my way to LIS.

The thing I like about OC is that it's noob friendly enough that I prefer to use it as a training area for the single-player campaigns, rather than the opposite. More freedom to experiment, more space to get my bearings. Some of the things like the mission planner etc that are not available in multiplayer are a shame when it comes to setting up waypoints, but then again it prompted me to learn how to manually create flightplans in the cockpit of the A10C, and I've even dabbled in setting up flight plans in the ABRIS.

Heck, I might even try out the teamspeak soon.

Unless I'm terribly misunderstanding something, the M2k definitely has to have IFF switched on in order to show friendlies. The IFF panel is located on the right hand side directly under the navigation control panel. Just to the right of the four numbers there is a knob that must be turned to the "CONT" position in order to turn on IFF. Otherwise all contacts will register as enemy. See page 67 of Chuck's guide.

Yea, it has already been reported ; I am going to change the F16 payload

However, they each have only 2 AIM120c so the entire CAP have 4 AIM120c, so I am not sure if it qualifies as spamram :)

I was not saying that so you remove them, I was just a noob again... Well part of that mess was my cat preventing me to jettison the fuel tank actually

Yes you are correct in the fact that the IFF msut be turned on in the m2k, I was responding to mirknirs question about other aircraft requiring their IFF to be on in order for it to interrogate properly, which is not how it work in DCS i believe. RW if your aircaft does NOT have an IFF you wont be distinguished friendly by another aircraft with IFF no matter what. Its kind of like two-way radio communication. In DCS however everyone on the same side is automatically friendly to all other players on the same side regardless if they have a working IFF or not...if that makes sense...

I'm not sure if it has been noted but I hopped on with my Viggen this evening and when attempting to tune to the AWACS the game crashes. When I last tried this a few weeks ago it worked fine when selecting group 1 and tuning the frequency. Now as soon as you turn the group dial onto the awacs channel the game stops responding. I've replicated this three times and have removed all mods to see if that was the issue with no luck. Has anyone else had this issue?

Were u on blue or red?

Sounds like a viggen issue

Blue, as I said It has worked before with no issue and there hasn't been any updates since I last tried which leads me to believe something is going on in the mission. I'll have to see if I can replicate the issue in singleplayer or on another server when I have time again.

Would be cool to see you implement SRS into the server for more direct comms as most people don't like the cluster f*** that can be teamspeak

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

If you mean simple radio the server is already running it. Check the mission brief for IP and frequencies :)

Trying out this IMGUR thing.

Here are some pics from yesterdays adventures. What started out as normal day eventually led to some very funny situations and thrilling experiences. First and foremost youll notice the first image is Bert doing his thing...using an AGM65 Maverick in air to air mode taking out an

enemy fighter.

As the day progressed I became so sad i did not have the F14 yet so i began practicing my carrier operations with the mirage. The sunset on OC made for some really epic screenshots!

Then cosmicdoubloon and i began doing proving runs for the mig29/m2k. I believe the highest altitude reached weas 97,000 Feet! just 3 short of the goal 100k. Then instead of going to bed we decided to make a dog-fighting playlist. Cosmicdoubloon sacrificed his day of studies to pulling an all nighter with his Western World wingman. We began dogfighting well into the wee morning hours, youll notice one of the screenshots is what happens when you try to land a perfectly good airplane at that time of night...you just fail...and come up short with no excuse to why you blew it:P

Another very successful and fun day on OC!

Alright so I've tested my issue and on singleplayer and on another MP server the Viggen can change to the AWACS channel without issue. With open conflict as soon as I turn the dial to connect to AWACS the Game crashes to desktop. It seems to be a server issue.

A crash is always a game issue and should be reported to DCS / Viggen developers with the corresponding dcs.log and DCS-XXXXX-YYYYYY.crash files located in your C:\Users\ZZZZZ\Saved Games\DCS\Logs.

Open Conflict doesn't run code on the client side so I can't trigger Open Conflict code specific crash.

However, this crash can be brought up by a special setup my mission is using and other don't ; like the fact that I have a UK AWACS on the red side.

It's a small distinction but it means it's harder for me to fix this kind of bug as I have no idea what the Viggen doesn't like in my mission that is ok for every other aircrafts.

I can try to find this problematic setup and change it until the crash is fixed by developers but it's even harder since I don't own the Viggen (if the developers are reading, PM me some dev licence please :))

For this, I would need more information like:

  • Anyone else experiencing this crash?
  • Does it happen only with the Viggen?
  • Does it happen on both side? or only on the red side for example?
  • Does it happen on different slots or on a particular one?
  • Can you attach or PM me the related dcs.log and DCS-XXXXX-YYYYYY.crash of when the crash happened?

Thanks

I have not experienced this crash at all yet. But due to the viggins inherent bugs and very very current "beta" state I've put her in the hangar for a while.
