Mad Dog 7.62
So its about time for me to upgrade my system. I currently have a Core i7 930 at 2.80 Ghz with 12 GB ram and a ATI 5700 video card. I am looking at a new system from ibuypower, that is where I got my current one and it has been a good system. Any suggestions on best bang for the buck would be appreciated. I would like to keep cost at $1000-1200 if possible. Unfortunately I have not kept up with the new processors and video cards and I/o systems like Thunderbolt? so I need some input. THanks! Gladman
1.5 is days to weeks away. You would be very wise to give that a month or so in service before making your decisions. I know its not what you were looking for but its soooooo close man. i9 9900K @ 5.1Ghz - ASUS Maximus Hero XI - 32GB 4266 DDR4 RAM - ASUS RTX 2080Ti - 1 TB NVME - NZXT Kraken 62 Watercooling System - Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas (Virpil Base) - MFG Crosswind Pedals - Pimax 5K+ VFA-25 Fist Of The Fleet [sigpic]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic99190_2.gif[/sigpic] Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1 | Discord
Mad Dog 7.62
I am not basing my decision on just DCS world. Just looking for a good all around system. Need pointers on things like AMD vs. Intel and Nvidia vs. ATI in bang for the buck. For instance, when I bought my last system Nvidia was having issues and ATI was the way to go. I don't know it that's still true. Mad Dog 7.62
I am looking for advice on hardware, not on timing on when to buy. Thanks. Gladman
In general, i7 4790, Asus Motherboards, Corsair Ram (DDR3 1333Mhz) and PSU, Nvidia GTX 980. You'll be good for a few years for sure. i9 9900K @ 5.1Ghz - ASUS Maximus Hero XI - 32GB 4266 DDR4 RAM - ASUS RTX 2080Ti - 1 TB NVME - NZXT Kraken 62 Watercooling System - Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas (Virpil Base) - MFG Crosswind Pedals - Pimax 5K+ VFA-25 Fist Of The Fleet [sigpic]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic99190_2.gif[/sigpic] Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1 | Discord

Hi Mad Dog 7.62, I take it that you are not keen on building your own rig given that you mentioned you bought your current system from iBuyPower? Have you given any thought to what kind of display size and resolution (or multi-monitor config) you would be aiming for? Is your budget for a complete new system including peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, monitor? Or is your proposed USD $1000-1200 spend just aimed at the system tower itself? On a side note you could try overclocking your i7-930 and gain an extra 1ghz (give or take) clock speed for free. Then spend a few hundred bucks on a graphics card and SSD for a more nippy system. Either way, both i7 overclock pretty good, if you oc the 960 or 970 series, look for FAST RAM, the fastest one your money can buy cause the RAM speed will be your limiting factor. my sons 970 goes to 4.2 at least with my good 2400 RAM, with his 1600 RAM nothing goes. Both, or ANY, CPU when ov'ed need proper cooling.... look for a WC setup, either AIO or DIY, both have ups and downs. I run both setups and both make sense, though the AIO's are usually very loud out of the box, think of extra fans right away if you plan on silent cooling with Radiator and Waterblock(s). There are excellent guides on how to OC your specific CPU. Google around, watch a few and then go for it in small steps....
