Working through the night?

Is this meant to be a joke (serious question with all respect)

If that's true then even more hats up to ED.

Not a joke, these guys are busting their butts on this, but ED has a hard working group on any given day, not just today.

No disrespect intended, but I would not expect anything different under the circumstances. Over the years I have missed numerous nights sleep, and weekends, when the demands of a project dictated it. No overtime pay either.

Any estimation on how big the update will be? Just saw I have only 20GB free :music_whistling:

if you already have the open beta installed i`m guessing very little extra data (3-5GB maybe) since very little actual assets are updated in the current Aircrafts and the Georgia map.

NTTR on the other hand is probably gonna make you buy a new HD...

I have a question. Maybe it was answered before but I don't see any of this information in the Changelog.

What kind of changes were made to the weather system?

The foundational code is in place, but there will be no visible changes to the weather in 1.5. That'll come later in 2.0

I just had a UAC prompt from DCS so I accepted it and the updater asked if I wanted to update to 1.5.1 which I did but then nothing happened.

They released an updated version of the updater, Version 2.5.1, so this is probably what you saw. It's a very small and fast update.

Couldn't find a formal answer - Does anyone know if the new scaling options are dynamic? So the farther away an object is, the "bigger" it appears and as you move closer it retains its "standard/original" size?

No. It's apparently a different system to the sort of dynamic scaling seen in Falcon 4.0,m for example.

Wags hasn't really spoken about specifics to the best of my knowledge, so I guess we'll find out more about the actual implementation in the coming hours/days.

Actually he has spoken quite a bit about it. It's not a 3d scaling option at all. At a certain distance where the object would be below a few pixels it is replaced (or rather superimposed with) by a larger 2d representation (sprite) which allows us to see objects up to similar distances to how we would see them in the real sky. From what Ive seen of it in the streams it looks very good. As I understand it each 3d object will have these representations and we will have three options, Off, Normal, Enlarged. Oh and it should work for ground units too :)

Idly wondering - if you view those distant objects through a targeting system do they revert to proper 3d objects?

I suspect ED have thought of that, mind.

The targeting systems views objects just like another in-game viewpoint would, so past a certain level of zoom (pixel count) you would see them as 3d objects again. Short answer, yes.

In fact one of the reasons why smart scaling wasn't used is because scaling changes the size of the 3d objects themselves, which in turn wreaks havoc with radar crossections, IR imaging sensors, within the simulation engine itself at least thats the way I understand it.

Sorry, if this was asked before, but i couldn't find it so far.

Will the multiplayer performance (especially when shooting tracers) already be better with Update 1.5, or is this a 2.0 thing? Thanks for your answers

Effects and such are being re done, so yes, graphics performance will increase. If you look at the 1.5 Changelog you will also see a quote from one of the programmers, c0ff stating that netcode is being fixed as well, but its a large undertaking and will not make initial beta release most likely.

ok, all right, thanks for the answer. Guess i have to test it then, when it's out.
