rrohde
I just installed a second NVIDIA GTX 980 to run in SLI configuration. However, since I enabled SLI, DCS modules keep crashing (see logfile zip attached). I am on the 1.2.16 Open Beta build. The behavior is always the same - the modules attempts to load, then it dumps me to the Desktop, but I cannot interact with the Desktop. At the same time, the hard drive is thrashing, and eventually the screen goes black as if the module is finally ready to load, but then it crashes ("DCS has stopped working") and returns me to the DCS main menu. I tried the same with SLI disabled, and everything worked just fine. And again, as soon as I enable SLI, DCS modules will crash again. I noticed, though, that basically only the Flaming Cliff airplanes work with SLI enabled, even though there are some artifacts in the rearview mirrors (see screenshot of Su-27 attached). FYI - neither my CPU nor my GPUs are overclocked, and all other games work just fine with SLI enabled. xaoslaad
Haven't any crashes with SLI 970'x. Have you tried doing a repair or moving your configs aside and tried restarting from scratch to see if it makes a difference. If not you can just move your other folder back, otherwise move just the inputs, network, etc. back. SLI is not well supported in 1.2.x. I have definitely seen those artifacts, clouds flickering, and other fun. 1.5, due any day now in theory has touted as one of its features improved SLI support, so hopefully all that junk will become a thing of the past in short order. rrohde
Yes, tried repairing; haven't tried moving anything around. Considering that DCS 1.5 should be here in a few days, I might just leave SLI disabled for the time being. Yes, I agree. According to Wags, the new EDGE engine should finally bring multi-GPU support to DCS. ...can't wait. :) PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com
AtaliaA1
Try another SLi Bridge if you can. Someone was having issues with DCS and just by process of elimination changed to a different bridge and got all to work well with his SLi'd rig. Just a thought. rrohde
Interesting. I might give that a try sometime; I was thinking to get one of these "fancy" MSI SLI bridges, but I really don't know if there's any benefit to them as compared to the one that came wit my motherboard... But, from a technical standpoint, I fail to understand how that would make a difference for DCS crashin. :) PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com
rrohde
Wait you bout a second 980, rather than just one Ti??? When I built my rig a few months ago, that TI wasn't available. And SLI was on my list for a long time, so that's why. Sometimes it's hard to wait for the "next big thing" when building a gaming PC - even though I built it for DCS 2.0, we're still waiting on 1.5 to come out. In other words, I could have waited for a TI... hindsight, I'm telling you, is 20-20. Maybe next year I'll upgrade again... :) Edited September 25, 2015 by rrohde PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com
xaoslaad
The SLI bridge is a good idea. I had some weird issues;it was a long time ago, so don't remember exactly, but I fixed it just by reseating it. I didn't even have to replace it. Demon_
Try Nvidia Inspector: SLI compatibility bits, single display performance mode, etc. And removed the SLI indicator. Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
rrohde
Try Nvidia Inspector: SLI compatibility bits, single display performance mode, etc. And removed the SLI indicator. I followed your advice and I was able to load the DCS modules that would crash before again. So these settings via NVIDIA Inspector work! Hope that with 1.5 this workaround is no longer needed - but for now I am back in business. rrohde
Just a quick update: I was able to run DCS World modules just fine without using NVIDIA Inspector, by going into the NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Options and changing some basic options: 1) Multi-display / Mixed GPU Acceleration = Single Display Performance 2) Power Management = Prefer Maximum Performance @Demon I believe the "SIngle Display Performance" might have done the trick. I'll keep playing with it and see how it behaves...
