pandastick
Hey everyone, Similar problem, except I can't get a lock on in the HAWK BETA for 1.5 I've just purchased the module, so could be I'm doing something wrong. I'm trying the air intercept mission at the moment and no matter how much I try to follow the procedures, I simply can't get a lock. Procedures followed: MAAS LIVE PYLONS PORT + STARBOARD ON COOLANT ON AAM SELECT (wait 3 minutes) NO LOCK. try to reject and switch to the next pylon but still nada. and yes, im looking for the green light on the reject switch rather than an audible indication. I'm 500m behind a MIG29 with his full afterburners on, so it's not like I'm not well placed. Any suggestions?Could this be a bug? I've just downloaded the latest version of the module today. Any help appreciated, P i75820k @ 4.3GHZ - X99 ASUS DELUXE - H110 - 16GB DDR4 3000 - GTX970 - DELL U3415W
Ratas
Pylon switches are for bombs/rockets, you only need AAM panel for sidewinders. Don't remember if the pylon switches mess with sidewinders though, but I'd expect they do. Edit: Procedure that should work: Landing gear up MASS key in, turn key, turn switch AAM select Cooling on Wait for few minutes Here is a video from older version: ramp start, intercept enemy, rtb. Should see all the buttons I press there, but there are no hints visible for that. Most switches for weapons I flip while closing canopy at around 0:25-0:35, AAM select is pressed at 3:47. I launch missiles by simply flying into a good firing position and holding the release. It will launch if it has a lock. Not looking at the light really, but it does lit when locked. (And this is not a tutorial for good flying or how to behave at airfield... : ) Edited October 29, 2015 by Ratas
Ells228
Hmm maybe the pylon selector is causing issues. We have found with 1.5.0 it's nerfing the weps. Although I did spend about 2 hours yesterday target practicing on Mi-8's and all range of aircraft and I get lock every time. Try what Ratas has put up (not switching on the wing selectors). I'll try that my end as well :)
pandastick
Thanks for the help guys but still the same issue. This time around I didn't touch the pylons or the gun. Still no lock. Also what's strange is that I'm only able to fire rockets with the bomb setting (B). i75820k @ 4.3GHZ - X99 ASUS DELUXE - H110 - 16GB DDR4 3000 - GTX970 - DELL U3415W
Ells228
We know about the B setting issue. Which mission are you flying?
pandastick
Mainly custom built ones, but I have the same issue in "intercept" mission for the Hawk. Ratas
Updated my Steam version to beta, and I can lock my missiles, mut after half dozen tests, it indeed looks like it only works at first time after I launch DCS. At second mission I seem unable to get a missile lock. Restarting DCS solves the issue. I even tried shooting a few engines off from that intercept mission IL-76 to make it nice to follow and indeed only first mission after launching DCS gives lock at it. OP, you might want to restart whole DCS between mission when trying it out?
Justificus
...Although I did spend about 2 hours yesterday target practicing on Mi-8's and all range of aircraft and I get lock every time... This just blows my mind that you are unable to easily reproduce what so many of us are seeing. You must have some type of special computer. ;) I feel relatively proficient at locking up targets now (though I'm still shocked by how the AI gets to lock me up on crazy head ons...) and have no issues doing so until I restart a mission with the Hawk. Once I do that I will never get a lock again until I restart DCS. Doesn't matter if I'm flying my own custom mission or the ones included with DCS. I'll attach my current missile practice mission for you to try out, Chris. I don't normally post my missions- as I think I suck as mission creation and just do so for my own practice/amusement and entertainment... :) I'll be curious to hear if you can fly this mission a couple of times in a row without restarting DCS and still be able to lock up planes on the 2nd try. I want to know your secret if you can!!! :DHawk Missile Pratice.miz Justificus System Specs:i7 4970K @ 4.8, GTX 1080 SC, 32GB G.Skill DDR 2133,Thermaltake Level 10 Full Tower Case, Noctua NH-D15 6 Cooler, Win 10 Pro, Warthog, CH Pro Pedals, CH Throttle Quadrant, Oculus, 1 32" & 2 19" Monitors Modules Owned: A-10C I+II, Ka-50, FC3, F-86, Mig-15, Mig21, UH-1H, Mi-8, CA, P-51D, BF-109K-4, FW-190 D-9, Hawk, NTTR, M-2000C, SA342, F-5E, Spit Mk. okieordie78
I am not able to get a lock with the AIM9's as well. Tried multiple settings, I also had issues with 1.2, couldn't get it to work there as well.
Noober
Heya, Just here to confirm the bug in case there's any doubt it exists, hopefully this vid helps: Skip to 1:20 for an example of long(ish) on-target loiter without lock achieved, skip to 3:20 for lock and splash in 'Intercept' after restarting the game. :joystick:[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]:joystick: Everyone in town used to throw rocks at me and tell me I was annoying. Ratcatcher
Hey noober, just had a watch of the vid. Can't help I'm afraid with any solution but just to let you know the playback of the vid was real choppy. ( However the soundtrack played fine ). Ells228
Try the AAM button first before you switch coolant on. It shouldn't matter but maybe the code is playing up. Also the aircraft you're chasing is popping flares so he knows you've got him locked. I'll fly some more with Jav this morning running target practice. Noober
@Ells Here's the results of trying against a friendly hawk and switching AAM on before cooling: I've managed to get lock and splash in first flight, this time a homebrew mission (progress!(?)), but nothing on the second flight - I'm practically staring down the guy's exhaust with no green light to show for it. @Ratcatcher My setup doesn't seem to like recording and playing DCS for some reason, even after I've cranked all the in-game graphic settings down. I'll need to look into it at some point, probably trying to squeeze too much quality in on the video capture stage (looking now I probably need to encode at 1/2 frame size). :joystick:[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]:joystick: Everyone in town used to throw rocks at me and tell me I was annoying. tflash
Could it be a counter in memory that is not reset? e.g. a timer for the cooling of the missile. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ells228
Well we have updated on our end the IR Seeker issue which is causing the DCS crash in OB 1.5.0 Maybe it's fixed this issue as well which is why I'm not getting it (as I'm running release build patched version). We'll have to see when ED do their general update.
Ells228
Ok, I added unlimited weps to the Intercept mission to try this out as well. Aim 9's lept off the rail every time. Came out, started the mission again, success. Quit DCS, straight back in, 9's came off the rail. So I think this is solved in the next patch. I even took some damage from gun fire :) Great fun on the EFM too :D
Sryan
that's great to hear then :) will we also have great fun with the EFM next patch? :D Check my F-15C guide
Ells228
Not next patch I'm afraid. It's gone to the Hawk pilots for feedback. Once we've tweaked it, it has to go to ED for approval. Then in your hands :)
Justificus
Yes! I am now able to refly a mission with the Hawk and still be able to get a missile lock! It's fixed for me. Thanks guys.
