„Requesting engine startup”– no reply from ATC

Hi There!

I THINK I’m doing everything OK, yet Batumi ATC never replies to my Request for engine startup. Battery ON, Inverter – ON, A/C GEN ON, APU GEN – PWR. VHF AM radio set to TR, freq. set to 131.00 MHz, Mic switch fwd to FM AM, from the menu selecting Batumi, ATC, Requesting enginge startup – and no reply. Is there anything wrong? Meanwhile there is audible radio traffic from others in the background, so volume can not be an issue eighter. Any idea then, what can be the issue? Or is it simply a bug?

Thanks

Is the APU on? Front and aft radio require the APU it engines be on.

I think it was on, as I made several attempts to call tower at various points along the procedure, however after some point the "Request for startup" option obviously disappears from the menu (becoming obsolete). I will try again and make sure APU is running before calliung tower, and will let you know.

So at "APU 100% running" would be a point, when your radio transmits at all, and yo can expect reply from tower?

Thanks

I battled the same symptom for a long time. I suspected a volume issue so i started using squelch on each radio to ensure i could hear the radio. I havent had an issue since. I am more strict on my startup procesures also so Im not claiming it fixed anything, but its a good test and occasionally finds a volume turned down or a step I forgot.
