DCS World will not start after Mig 21 update

I am totally frustrated. I normally run 1.2 and 1.5 side by side. In the latest up for the Mig 21, I followed there special update procedure and now I have the following:

 

1. DCS 1.5 seems to work fine

 

2. DCS 1.2 will not start. All I get is the little box and then nothing. I have uninstalled 1.2 and just now reinstalled it with still the same results.

 

3. Some how I believe that the Mig 21 special program to delete lines in the registry must have screwed things up.

 

4. The end result is that I can only play on DCS 1.5. I guess that is better than nothing.

 

5. I do put some blame on the Mig 21 update procedure as that is the only thing I did to to 1.5 before 1.2 stopped working. I followed the below:

Note: It is recommended to manually update and follow these steps:

Cancel any automatic update prompt.

Deactivate module.

Delete all Leatherneck Simulations’ MiG-21Bis Windows Registry entries.

Execute manual update.

Restart Windows, and activate module.

If successful, users should not be asked to reactivate after future updates.

I am going to post this on the Mig 21 forum in the hopes that someone has a good idea as to what I should do.

I realize that so I don't understand why 1.2 stopped working.

Please elaborate on: 1.2.16 will not start.

When does it hang? Does it not get into the launcher at all?

When I double click on the gray DCS World Icon, I get a black box that on the top has the folder structure with the launcher at the end. The box stays up for about 2 or 3 seconds then disappears and nothing happens.

@Sobe;

 

Can you copy and attach your logs from your Saved Games/DCS/Logs folder.

They would be most helpful in identifying the issue.

This is a strange issue indeed.

 

The next step I'd advise is to try and run a DCS Repair on your Vanilla 1.2.16 install.

This should repair any broken files in that build.

Yes, a very strange issue. I already ran repair, update, and finally, just uninstalled DCS and all modules and then just installed DCS with the same result- the black launcher box and then nothing.

Problem solved. DCS suggested that I reinstall 1.2 to a different directory and that solved the problem. Is it any wonder that I have a love/hate relation with my computer.

Just thought I'd add to this thread.

 

Just broke my installation as well. Had an error on de MIG-21 module which kept popping up. If I ignored the message I could just keep flying, but I decided I wanted to get rid of that message.

 

I removed the Mig-21 module in the hopes of reinstalling it. After a reboot I couldnt start DCs at all! 1.5 still works, but no joy for 1.2.

 

Currently in the process of redownloading in preperation of a completely new install. Clearly, the repair tool didnt work. It did download some stuff, but that didnt change the endresult.
