Making a new cockpit texture

F l a n k e r

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm cleaning and adjusting the textures so as to make the MiG-21bis cockpit just out of factory.

As you can see there is still a lot of work to do, but the results are there!

I've also corrected some spelling of the russian tags - I hope, because I don't know Russian so well - (like пуцка -> пучка on the right side of the ejection seat), as well as a few details here and there (like some fonts or the black frame around the engine gauges).

I think I can finish the cockpit in a couple of weeks, and I hope you enjoy it!

UPDATE

The texture is now complete, you can find them here

Good work Flanker.

It will be great to have a new, just out of factory, cockpit.

Now we will need a new shiny bare metal skin.

I'm working on the last 3 texture sheets. They're pretty boring to retouch! (only paint peeling) I hope to finish before Christmas ...

Luckily Photoshop gives a big hand in the work!

Good work, I'm partial to the worn texture, seams more Russian to me but still, very nice job!

Yes, I understand you perfectly, but I consider the current texture a little too overly worn: I would be afraid to fly on a plane in so bad conditions! :D

Almost there!

I must to finish the overhead panels (three sheets almost identical) and a couple of specular maps.

And I thought you were using acrylic based paint :)

Ah, you got me! And fluorescent paint also, of course! ;)

Nice job! I hope, you removed dirt from glass of gunsite and cockpit. If you need help with russian tags - I can help you.

Yes, maybe a bit too much... but you can still use Tetra mod: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=132289

Thanks for help with tags, I think I wrote all right and have corrected a couple of errors that I found in the original texture, but please tell me if you find some mistake!

here is a better way for installation which can avoid issue caused by repair/update:

1. create a 'MiG-21_Cockpit' folder beside MiG-21_Cockpit.zip file

2. unzip the downloaded file and move all dds into the newly created folder

3. in option->special->mig-21, check the 'custom livery' box

Thanks, copied and pasted in the instructions!

I had a quick try of the clean textures in cockpit, and I feel they are kind off too clean (I know, they are supposed to be like that), so I personally still prefer to see some weathering on them.

Thank you, yes the textures are absolutely clean indeed... I think someone can use them as a basis for an "operative standard machine".

I agree, it's too clean :) Let me ask you. Why did you repaint green annunciator?

And another one - which of textures replace for clean ASP pillow? I want remove that table.

Did you mean green light is become yellow? Hmm, I thought that was the right color... Thank you, I will correct them ASAP.

Is in the MiG-21-cockpit_006.tga.dds file, upper left corner.

I've uploaded the corrections, and some other refinements (new screw heads and such...). Thank you for the tip!

Thank you! This is really great job!

P.S. I found one mistake - amber annunciators - word СЛЕДЫ wrong, must be СЛЕДИ
