Game reporting high VRAM usage.

Pressing lcrtrl+pause twice lets you monitor what's presumably the vram ("graphics ram") used by the game. It's reporting 7+ gig when my card only has 4. Anyone know how that works? I assume it's actually reporting vram+ram allocated to graphics?

Yes it is. Such a high consumption could be observed in 1.5 already (or even higher, courtesy of reported memory leak); NTTR being much more detailed makes things even more problematic.

I have not witnessed a memory leak in the vram. In 2.0 my vram is hanging around 3.3gb constantly.

I do get a slow memory leak in system ram, it gradually climbs up similar to how it did in 1.5.

Mine is stable at 4.1GB of VRAM at my rez of 5760x1080 2xAA and most settings on very high in 3d surround which is about as high of a demand that you can get short of triple 4k screens.

My video mem is sometimes even 11Gb. Have 8Gb RAM and 1,5Gb vram (GTX 580). So it must use SSD when vram is full?

So they still haven't fixed the 1.5. memory leaks? Ok, it's alpha and they are a small team. We should be happy it's working as well as it is I guess :)

It more or less pretty quickly fills my 4GB 980GTX but does not go beyond those 4080MB as stated in MSI Afterburner.

I haven't yet had a memory leak caused crash, not that it got it stated as one or that I could track it down as one.

What really bugs is the netcode-warping every 3-5 seconds........WwwwaaaarrrrrRRRP ;)

Dburne can you please post your ingame video settings? A screenshot would do nicely. Im trying to figure out how to keep the VRAM usage below 4GB.

Thanks, they are very similar to mine, although my preload radius is maxed out, my CIV traffic is medium, and MSAA is set to 4x.

Ill try lowering tree visibility and setting my preload radius to your setting.

A few questions, do you have mirrors on? What is the difference between MSAA 4x and 8xQ? Do Lens effects have an impact on performance?

I have mirrors off. In 1.5 I never saw really any difference in performance having them on or off ( unlike in 1.2), have not tried having them on in 2.0 yet.

MSAA - Not really sure other than the higher up the better it is supposed to be lol. Have not really done any testing of it in 2.0, just initially set it there and left it there.

Lens Effect - Not sure, I don't think much if any - certainly not like having DOF enabled ( that is a killer in ext view). I just never really cared much for the effect of Lens Effect.

I saw significant improvement by setting terrain shadows to flat only.

Mirrors have a huge impact on performance. The small mirror in the L39 costs me about 10 frames, what often makes the difference between smooth flying and stuttering over some parts of Las Vegas. The impact of mirrors on performance should be even bigger in aircrafts with more than one mirror.

If you want to save Vram set textures to medium. Setting to low is even better, but optics will suffer. Medium is a good compromise.

With my settings on "high" Over Vegas I have about 9700GB VRAM usage. I do have a 12GB card though so its not an issue yet but it definitely seems to be a leak or just incorrect VRAM usage report. Or it could really be that high?!

Should be a Vram leak. When I`m finishing a flight Vram usage still stays high and I have to restart the game to get an empty Vram. (Using MSI Afterburner for checking Vram usage)

Maybe it is just making good use of that card you spent good money for. Unused vram is wasted vram right...

I have my settings on about the highest they can be, and on my 4gb GTX 970 am running around 3.6-3.7gb of vram.

Preload radius can affect amount of vram significantly. I had mine on app 10K and it was around 3.3 gb, upped it to app 12k and it is around 3.6-3.7gb.

I have not noticed any sort of memory leak on my vram. System ram yes, but not vram.

Check my attached screenshot below, with these settings Im getting smooth gameplay, 60 FPS, in most if not all situations even over downtown Vegas. Adaptive Vsync in Nvidia options, and ALT+ENTER of course.

Very happy with the visuals and the performance now. Thanks for all the help. (The key seems to be to turn off mirrors)

Using Nvidia Inspector I could check that every time I loaded another mission, Vram usage went up a little.

After flying three missions (2xP51D and 1xF86) over Vegas, I was already using almost 6Gb VRam (while my card has only 4).

If you get out of game and reload everything again before flying different mission, it starts "normal" everytime.

Got here to check if others were having the same issue, and it seems so. Well, it's alpha. Long road ahead. Other than that, feeling pretty solid.

My Asus GTX 980Ti 6GB video card's memory is maxed out when free flying over the new Nevada terrain. I mean..pegged to the top of the scale. Amazing.

Game is extremely fluid however.

Cool thing I found out - so, after I crashed my bird I didn't exit out of the game...I found out that the mouse wheel acts like a throttle and you can then fly around the map. Pretty cool way to explore the map.

Oh, so thats why my VRAM usage went up after a watched a track of a mission I flew. Interesting. Hopefully this can lead to some more performance improvements if it is indeed a bug and ends up being fixed.
