Thank you for the response gents. You guys have done an oustanding job.

On another note, I truly hope the Aersospatiale (Eurocopter, Airbus Helos) Dauphin is on your list (the Panther). This is truly the #1 module of any in the DCS world I want to see. Just because of personal bias and growing up around it with the old man. Nothing comes close to the sound of her. And the variants from rescue, land, and sea is outstanding.

Regards

Robert

As much as the Stuka was a feared and fierce plane (to people on the ground) for the early part of the war, and as notorious, and iconic (for lack of a better term) as it was. And as much as I think it would be cool to fly it.

I was chuckling with some pals on TS about it. It is destined to become cannon fodder in DCS for all of the allied planes that should be able to very easily shoot them down by the dozens. But when the WWII map comes out, the possibilities are endless for battle scenarios.

I think it would be a hoot.......Hope to see it someday.

In this regard it does not differ from any other pure ground attack WW2 aircraft. During the end of war some Ju-87 were retired from daybombing and refitted to serve as nightbombers (D-7 and D-8 variants) due to their vulnerability at this stage of war. Others were used as low altitude Schlachflieger. That's about as much as we could expect it to possibly do in DCS at least.

Looking forward to the upcoming announcement and wish all the best to PolyB and the Stuka!

Being cannon fodder for other planes is no big deal to me, it is having an iconic German ground attack and tank buster that is a big deal to me, besides thats what fighter cover is for. I would love to do some tank busting in Normandy with the bk37.

Have you ever heard of Hans Ulrich Rudel? He might disagree with you regarding the survivability of the Stuka. A quick search will bring up his book - Stuka Pilot. It is a real eye opener!

Again....Great plane for it's intended purpose, and the reason Mr. Rudel was highly decorated (on the Eastern front, away from Allied fighters). And I'm sure it would be a fun addition to DCS WWII. But a cannot imagine a lot of guys flying it in a server unless they has some heavy duty escort service.

Wouldn't be so sure about that, as what do the A10C bods do now? :)

Requirements for escort is mostly down to mission design though, but on a more general level the lack of AA and SAM missiles and radar makes taking ground pounders a much less risky affair.

Having read Rudel's book it seems he took out quite a few fighters with his JU87 as well as countless IL2's

His total kill tally things is pretty ridiculous, it is like he have destroyed what seems to be a small country's entire armed forces, including many ships, hundreds of vehicles and tanks, and a freakin' battleship.

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

After putting far too many hours into IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad/Moscow I can say that the JU87's survivability online will come down to a few factors:

1) map/mission design. A lot of the online missions in IL-2 are built around a long frontline with multiple active fields on either side and a variety of mixed targets running up and down the front. If DCS mission designers follow this approach, bomber pilots should be able to hit targets before the enemy can find them.

2) Tail gunner AI. No idea how well the AI will shoot from this thing, in IL-2 the tailgunners are a mixed bag of laser accurate and completely blind. You never know what you'll end up with.

3) Player controlled tail gunner positions. Not sure if this will be a thing or not but if it is it would be fantastic and depending on the gunner, a huge help.

I really think that the mission makers are going to have their hands full but my fingers are crossed we get something in a similar nature to CloD/IL-2 style missions. That will go a long way in ensuring anyone, regardless of which role they want to fly will have a good time playing.

I'm sure all the other Stuka pilots, those that did not survive, would agree too.

Yeah. The multicrew will be essential to individual aircraft defense. But with our aircraft selection at the moment it will require some CAP cover to make it through defenses or a very cunning pilot. I'm excited for when it comes.

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

Well, he was flying throughout the war, and there were several tanks, and a few other items around at the time. A couple of chaps in a bi-plane crippled the Bismark too. So why should you think his claims are so far fetched?

Of course, we all bow to your undoubted superior knowledge here - naturally.

Oh by ridiculous, I did not mean the tally sounds spurious or far fetched, my intention was more along the lines of meaning it being incredible and, amazing.

Oh, and, of course we all bow to your undoubted superiour wisdom around here naturally, which never-ever comes off as snideness at all, not once! :)

Well, I find it peculiar, that we discuss how likely people will have fun in this plane in DCS or not, while we have threads begging for B-17 Bombers, C-130 Cargo Haulers/AC-130 Gunships and what not...

Similar arguments were around for the MiG-21bis (too old, no match for xyz), the Mirage (F-15C has AMRAAM/will own them) and F-5E (inferior to modern Fighters, not enough AIM-9, no mid range missiles).

We currently have this discussions for the AJS-47 Viggen (Bomber, too task specific) and the P-40F (performance inferior to the 1944 P-51D, Bf. 109 K and FW-190 D) and the Helicopters in general, where thought to be no more than easy targets...

In the end ALL of these inferior modules have their fans, get flown, have appropriate missions, even in MP and everybody enjoys them.

I've seen F-15C's and Su-27s got shot down by Mirage 2ks, Mig-21s and F-5e.

I've seen and enjoyed Helicopters in ground support roles, or as snipers for SAM cover, hiding and sneaking through valleys and that does not take PvE missions into account, where you can simply balance the threat from AI, accordingly.

I guess even for a Zeppelin you will find a bunch of people who would love to have it and enjoy it.

So why the heck, should a JU-87 Stuka not be fun to fly and fight in DCS? :dunno:
