I have read the beginner guides.

I have a very simple model shape.

It's exported from 3ds max to .edm.

I can see it perfect in the modelviewer.

And now? How do i get it in DCS?

Any guide about this? :book:

I am a very beginner and i hope somebody helps me out.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I found it, but it didn't worked

Make the following folders in the tech folder-

the name of the mod ie 'tent'

Then make 2 folder -

Shapes < this is where you put the .EDM files

Textures < this is where you put all the textures

Make 2 .LUA files

entry < since version 1.5 you need this file.

The mod name < this defines what the mod is in game.

attached the 2 .luas for you.

If you need any more help [and I guess you will] don't hesitate and we'll help you.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Wauw Joey45 this would be awesome. Yes i have plenty ideas to get the maps greater. But just on the last freaking moment it went wrong. I hope to hear from you soon. I love to contribute the community to provide for some great mods and inspire to help and make DCS greater then it already is. Thanks in advance. :D

stage 1: done. Create a simple object. Texture with a .bmp file on diffuse color done. Make cool done.

Problem 1: when i open standalone modelviewer2 i got no textures? Yep. Textures must been placed in the temptexture folder of the modelviewer.

What a great opener in my pursuit of just these matters...... my 3DStudio, AutoCAD, and Lightwave skills have been dormant for some time..... seeing that there are pathways to DCS World from at least 3DS, the opportunity to work with terrains and objects has potential once again. With many upper-end softwares, learning them without an application (reason) is pretty tough. Anybody think of those dreadful algebra and pre-calc classes? Why learn about matrices and function of x and......... :) Cuz' the world is full of complaints and malcontent, when I see something good I'm compelled to speak....... the comms in this forum are awesome. Beyond civil, downright congenial. Since boedha68 started this, I'll happily spill whatever's left in my oatmealy brain :)

Oops.... not to flood the thread, but boedha68 you may find that certain 3D file format export types appear across several modeling softwares...... ones I've noticed that are frequently a standard, and note much of what I say is also ripe for clarification....: .FBX (by Autodesk, quite the reliable shared standard with many "internal" parameters for animation, etc.) .OBJ (originally the product of UNIX-based Wavefront software, which was for some time THE 3D system used in forensic analysis, from traffic accidents to airliner disasters to product failure. It's essentially the obligatory "foreign" file format) .3DS (the object format standard of 3D Studio MAX, widely supported in other 3D software, and note that .3DS files are objects only. .DXF (originally the export format in AutoCAD, capable of both 2D and 3D export. Its "parent" format is .DWG, which is also quite widely supported by other 3D packages. IN your pursuit of 3D skills, you can learn much about 3D from the various file formats...... some have limitations on number of vertices and polygons, others output a 4-sided polygon OR trianglular polygon, of course plenty other potential gotcha's.

Work and real life interrupted me...

OK.
I'm at the point of fighting with incomplete 2/3 year-old information and up to date tools that don't behave in the explained manner (e.g. the bounding box error, and multiple model viewer errors).
Plan B is switching to Blender, which from memory 20 years ago is a PITA to use, but there's more recent info for DCS.

(Duplicate from the EDM tools thread)
After installing the older plugin from the other thread, it compiled without the bounding box, but I still can't get my simple model to appear in-game, and can't get the modelviewer to work.

Attached is the simple box I'm trying to get to show up before I do anything more complex.
It appears in the mission editor selection, but no visible model there or in-game.
