jib Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I finally just found XP drivers for my IR head movement tracker, after it sat in the attic for years. It works great in LOMAC, really useful in dogfights but it takes up the game-port that I was using for my joystick. I have decided to by a new usb joystick (but I’m a poor student strapped for cash (£40 maximum)). I was think of getting this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000BWH8G6/026-90277...66?v=glance&n=300703 Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox 2 Pro Or if people can Persuade me to how good force feedback is I might get this one for £39.99. http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/92929/rb/20482068123 Guilemot Thrustmaster FFB Looks like a good buy, has anyone used it? I’m open to any other suggestions or recommendations. EDIT: ow I have just seen this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00006AMA2/026-90277...66?v=glance&n=300703 do u think it is better or worse than the Thrustmaster? Some People say Saitek are a good mid range joystick, but I think they look strange and uncomfortable. http://www.dxmarket.com/saitek/products/PS24.html Are they? EscCtrl Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Scrap FoRce Feedback and go for something like a Saitek X45/52 if you look around you can get them for less than £40 thats what a lot of people here have and i certainly wouldn't change it for much else

On russian forum there was similar thread sometime ago. Conclusion was that force feedback is unrealistic in LOMAC. In case Il2 it's very helpful but not over here. I recommend Saitek x52! I had chance to try it - outclasses beyond wildest dreams.
jib Posted July 18, 2006 Author Posted July 18, 2006 thx Im now thinking of geting the X45 because it is cheaper. but is the only difference between the X45 and the X52 the lcd display or is it missing other features? Yes, it is. It is probably the only joystick with magnet sensors inside. Also accuracy is much more bigger than x45.
suntrace1 Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Those other joysticks you linked are good enough only for casual games, which LOMAC definitely isn't. After time, you'll greatly appreciate the money well spend on a good HOTAS configuration and will start to save for a TrackIR - it's that much addictive :joystick::pilotfly:
Weta43 Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 When I first bought LOMAC I had a MS sidewinder (non-FFB) joystick. I bought an MSFFB2 stick which I'm still using with FC. I realy prefer the force feedback enabled in LO - & in IL2/PF. Especially with the AFM planes the 'feedback' as you get to the edge of the envelope or - what's it called - force coupling (?) where you're pulling the nose up hard with the stick & asking for a lot of roll at the same time - & you can just feel it starting to think about letting go & flipping over. Definately adds to the immersion. But - no HOTAS - though the Saitek FFB stick does (from memory) have a good set of buttons. Maybe you could see if you could get the throttle half of a HOTAS & use the saitek FFB stick in place of the X45? Cheers.

I have to agree with that 100%, I am a big supporter of FFB but in LOMAC, having FFB enabled produces certain handling anomalies that you just have to live with. I have a M$FFB2 joystick and I've turned off the FFB in lomac for better control.. However IL2/PFM is another matter because the FFB works perfect, if you had IL2 or you were going to get BOB then I would suggest getting a FFb stick and just using the centering force in lomac but seeing how you wont be flying any WWII sims then the best advice would be to go for the best hotas you can afford.
