NEODARK Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 lol, this just happened uh? lol/./ 156 (cn 156) Tailstrike!! One of the stars of this years RIAT, at the end of Sunday's display the pilot put the aircraft down hard and it bounced it the air before touching down again. It was only when looking at my shots later on I realised that the jetpipes had touched the runway, creating a shower of sparks. It can only have happened for a split second, as nobody nearby seemed to notice it either!
Force_Feedback Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Oh well, seems that TVC aircraft have a habit of scraping the ground, some new kind of magnet I guess. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
VMFA117_Poko Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 It can only have happened for a split second, as nobody nearby seemed to notice it either! Kudos for photographer who catched this "split second" moment:thumbup:
Kenan Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I guess that pilot had too much of LOMAC.. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Commanding Officer of: 2nd Company 1st financial guard battalion "Mrcine" See our squads here and our . Croatian radio chat for DCS World
Trident Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Tough Russian engineering though, going by other photos on a.net the aircraft was flying its display the day after inspite of this incident!
Maverick-90 Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Tough Russian engineering though, going by other photos on a.net the aircraft was flying its display the day after inspite of this incident! every US plane, would have fallen to pieces :D
BladeLWS Posted July 19, 2006 Author Posted July 19, 2006 every US plane, would have fallen to pieces :D *cough* F-111 landing wheels up a few posts down *cought*
Maverick-90 Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 *cough* that F-111's Exhaust Nozzles didn't scratch the 'ground, it made a perfect Belly Touchdown *cough*
Force_Feedback Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 *cough* that F-111's Exhaust Nozzles didn't scratch the 'ground, it made a perfect Belly Touchdown *cough* The F-$$ prototype had a habit of doing that, but it didn't hit it with the nozzles. Reminds me of that su-27 gear up landing, few hours later the gear was lowered, and it flew away on the same day. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
suntrace1 Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 That's Russian tech - you can repair their cars with a hammer and chisel, nothing fancy, all robust. Have you seen their runways, they are always full of grass and dirt, not like American which are routinely walked through for any debris.
Cobra360 Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 The F-$$ prototype had a habit of doing that, but it didn't hit it with the nozzles. Reminds me of that su-27 gear up landing, few hours later the gear was lowered, and it flew away on the same day. Thats was amazing, the fighter landed on the intake pylons, using them as a ski and slid down the runway on them, I can't believe they didn't break. The build those fighters well.
Colt40Five Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I wonder how bad that pilot got his @$$ reamed about that... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cobra360 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 The MiG-29 does have a short gear for it's size, and the placement of the main gear has a lot to do with it. This is an example of why the airbrake will not deploy with the gear down, the bottom half would by ripped off. But I think the OVT, like the K and M have a different airbrake, placed a little further up in the spine like the Hornets.
chrno120 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I think the pilot wants to show everyone the toughness of his machine :D The most stupid member in the forum
Trident Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 But I think the OVT, like the K and M have a different airbrake, placed a little further up in the spine like the Hornets. True, there also is no bottom half anylonger: http://soda.studentsagainstada.de/ila2006/Teil%203/P1000651.JPG (Warning: large image!)
Crusty Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 The vectoring nozzles are longer and larger in girth oo err...missus:animals_bunny: ** Anti-Pastie**

ARM505 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Surely that airbrake causes quite a vigorous nose up pitching moment?
ФрогФут Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Surely that airbrake causes quite a vigorous nose up pitching moment? САУ(how is that in English? Automatic Control System?) automaticly parries this moment, AFAIK.
