arriflex Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Hey gang- I'm able to see the beacon and dashed alignment symbology on my HUD, but not the virtual runway. Can anyone shed some light on the ILS system and what I may be missing to enable that feature? I was following Chuck's guide and attempting to get into Sochi on the VA.
whaaw Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) Hi arriflex, you have to set a waypoint on the airport you want to land in the missioneditor. Then it appears in the HUD after you catch the ILS signal! Edited January 5, 2016 by whaaw SFMBE
PiedDroit Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) This: The ILS is working 1. Turn it on (click on it until it is on M) 2. Select the station with the knob (use the mouse wheel) 3. If you like, turn on the ID audio sound to hear the ident signal. 4. The system must be in NAV: 4.1. Master arm off 4.2 No weapons selected 5. Select APP in the PCA. 6. the HUD will change: 6.1 IAS, HS and BA will drop to the center of the FOV 6.2 If you have a localizer, the symbol will appear over the horizon as an open box 7. Move up the seat until the HS is back at the top of the combiner glass, specially if you are near the runway. You need to approach the aircraft at 14° AOA and that will wipeout your view of the runway unless you move the seat up. 8. When glideslope is captured, the open box will close and will start moving around the HUD. Place the FPM in the center of the box and you will be on course and in the glideslope. Note: The will appear ONLY if: a. The INS is on and the next waypoint is an airport. b. Glideslope is captured c. Distance to runway is less than 9 nmiles. From your description it looks like you only have caught the LOC beam, not LOC+GS. When you catch localizer + glideslope a closed box appears, linked to FPM (the open box on the horizon and the dashed line disappear). Edited January 5, 2016 by PiedDroit
arriflex Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Ok, so in a public server there isn't a way to get the virtual runway unless the host has set up waypoints for the ILS fields in the mission editor for the M2000?
PiedDroit Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 (edited) Yes, the waypoint should be a landing waypoint defined in the flight plan. For the ILS part, it's up to you to tune the correct frequency, therefore that landing waypoint must be set on an airport that is ILS equipped. The mission creator doesn't need to setup anyhting for the ILS, if I remember correctly a simple "landing" waypoint on the correct airport should be enough. Edited January 6, 2016 by PiedDroit
arriflex Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 I had everything tuned in correctly, was picking up the beacon and such, the virtual runway wasn't coming up on the HUD. I'll cycle through the waypoints and see what happens.

You might want to try that offline first, try this mission, I tested it, it works, ILS is 108.90 and TACAN is 31X (to use TACAN you need to set HSI in "TAC" mode): http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2620227&postcount=5 Attached, for Black Sea map. (Don't have the NTTR alpha installed, sorry.) Has 4 client slots (selectable in single-player) - 2 are air start, 2 are ramp start. Radio channel 1 is preset for the airbase, Senaki. Briefing has the ILS and TACAN settings.

enigma6584 Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 This might help. An excellent tutorial by Jack Flash using ILS.
arriflex Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 In the mission linked above I am not getting the glidescope or beacon though I have them tuned in. Are there altitude parameters to pick them up?

One good starting point is to be level 1500ft above airfield at 8Nm and intercept LOC, you will intercept GLIDE around 5Nm, than follow the box with your FPM. Mirage fanatic ! PiedDroit Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 (edited) In the mission linked above I am not getting the glidescope or beacon though I have them tuned in. Are there altitude parameters to pick them up? Hello, here a track of this mission, starting in air. First I set APP mode, set ILS and TACAN frequencies, switch to last waypoint then check both point to the same place (TACAN beacon is a little closer) and adjust seat height. I catch the localizer immediately after tuning the frequency (open box and dashed line), I use HSI needle and deviation indication to time my turn and align. Glideslope is caught at about 13nm from the runway (closed box appears). I start a little high to I lose some altitude, then I got a little low, so I reduce descent rate to slowly catch the beam from below, while adjusting speed to get good AoA. Virtual runway appears a 9nm. Hope this helps.M-2000C landing.trk Edited January 6, 2016 by PiedDroit
