sedenion Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I don't know if it is a bug (some will maybe tell me how that works on the real aircraft), but it seem strange that the automatic launch payload order is not optimized, i explain: For all kind of missile (not tested for bombs), the first to be fired is the left one (or the right one, i don't remember)... the problem is: You automaticaly fire the left R-530... then you select Magic, and you fire the left Magic... now, you have an empty wing, and the orther is full loaded, you are now very unbalanced... It seem more logical that the system alternates right/left whathever the payload is launched, to keep as more as possible a better balancing.
PiedDroit Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 +1 I already asked that even before release, answer was: there will be a left/right selector IIRC. When I read the m-2000c manual, it appears that the left/right selector on the PPA only mentions selection for the 530D. I wonder how it was done in the real aircraft. If that selector only affect 530D in the sim too, then I would put it always on right (D), so the right 530D would always fire first and the left Magic II will always fire first. And If you forget to switch it you'll be always left with two missiles only on right wing (because no way to select magic). On the other hand if they make that selector also work for magics it will be more flexible but it also means we'll have to switch it everytime we switch missile type.

The Left/auto/Right selector is a thing, but i hope that if there is an "AUTO", it's not an "dumb AUTO", but an "SMART AUTO"... here, the "AUTO" is dumb as hell, since it just begin by the same side for all payload... I think the auto is dumb... I have to read again. From the real manual that was posted a while ago (this is the manual I was referring to) I saw no mention of a switch to select magic, so I would assume the 530D is selected with the switch on the PPA (using dumb or smart logic) and the Magics are always selected without user input, using smart logic. That would make sense and be the most useable. Also note that switch is not functional right now, so it's always left then right until it is implemented.
nomdeplume Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Probably worth keeping in mind that the S530D allegedly has a Pk of somewhere around .40, so it may be that in real life it would be very rare to enter a close dogfight with one of them remaining - if you get a chance to use them at all, you use both. Plus the emergency weapons jettison also ditches the Supers... these are pretty big, heavy missiles you're unlikely to want to hang on to in a knife fight. Of course, in DCS you aren't actually putting your life on the line, so wanting to retain firepower in case you win is probably worth a smallish performance hit.
PiedDroit Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 that's what I do most of the time :) shoot them all before the close combat enters
sedenion Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 I agree that in most case, and specially in the real case of a real french air force mission context, you would fire your two 530 for the same target (even if they are horribly expensive)... however, i'm not sure about the "40%" chance to hit (this is more an AIM-7 statistics i think, or an RDM Radar/530 couple statistics, but not an RDI Radar/530 couple... ), and in the context of DCS, in the many cases we can creates, keeping one 530 for another target seem not creasy.
TomCatMucDe Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I fully agree with OP, even with the implementation of the G D switch it would be still annoying not to have the balancing automated.
