The DCS Updater / Launcher GUI Utility Version 2.0 (2023+)

Recommended Posts

This is still a problem. I have to reboot my PC to get this working again.

When the exception occurs and the Process is locked, CTRL+ALT+DEL, End Process,

No Need to reboot.

This is without the exception I previously mentioned. That has not re-occurred.

attach the DCS Updater Log (launch app, and choose Application Information Open Application Log File), Save To Desktop, Attach to Forum Post.

What Permissions are you launching App and DCS With?

Selecting 'Open Application Log' from the menu does nothing.

Don't know if there any any special permissions, I just run them without doing anything re permissions.

Thanks, I dont see anything that would lock out the presets but I will look into the startup loading code, maybe, there's a mis-link after it disables it, it doesnt re-enable.

I did find a code order error though, when choosing Open Log, it should save all data from in app log first then check for log file (as App makes a new log file every 500kb), so the issue with your log not working was because the app renamed it at startup, and the Open log Button was checking for the log file, before compiling a new one.

Fixed that already in code, along w/ duplicate version numbers parsing (one of which was outside of Exception Catch).

Ran EXE of Versions 06-30-2018-1 and 06-27-2018-1 from sub-dir in Eagle Dynamics folder and also from a different drive entirely. Neither versions will initialize i.e. get past the splash screen. However a 'Saved Games\DCS Updater Utility' is created.

Running Win10x64.

To save space, I only have the 'Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta', and have moved/deleted the base version.

The 403 Exception will be fixed in the next build, as the function was moved to be inside the exception catch in the code.

The other problem I havent been able to re-produce, I need the App Logs from a Session in which the Problem happens, and it has to be as current as posible.

next time it happens, Goto Open Log File, make sure it's from the current session, and save to desktop and attach here.

Great Utility and I have been using it for the past 6 moths, but probably not taking advantage of all the possibilities. I fly VR (CV1) and this makes it sooooo easy.

I see several things (e.g., Options preset, Oculus Rift Configuration, etc.) hand haven't a clue as to what they do or how to use them.

Now, I haven't scanned the 54 pages of the thread, but is there something somewhere that explains the various options and their impact.

TIA

DCS.exe is Running, and the App Detects it on Launch and Locks all Launch/Update Buttons.

Not sure what that means. The only possible reason that DCS might have processes still running is because of the regular crashes due to the current Viggen issues. That’s all I can think of. If your utility is locked out, I can still start DCS from its own icon, so not sure what this all means.

Either way, I have to restart my PC to get the utility working again.

Launch Task manager, Show Processes from All Users:

DCS.EXE after Crash continues to run while it gathers and saves log files.

Rebooting your PC Simply Ends that Process.

The App Detects the Process is Running, until Windows Closes it.

Sorry, I wasn't making myself clear. I understand that, what I meant was that I couldn't understand why DCS.exe would still be running. I was only guessing it might have something to do with DCS crashing, and even if that was true, it would be quite a long time after a crash before I would be running the utility again, so unlikely to be saving log time.

I'll pay a bit more attention to what is happening when it occurs again and report back.

...it would be quite a long time after a crash before I would be running the utility again, so unlikely to be saving log time.

A real long-shot, but when DCS crash for me I always get two dialogue windows appear, one after the other. Fist ask me for some extended information gathering, the other if I would like to send the crash dump to ED. Both need my interaction before going further and close dcs.exe. Do you get these?

If not, may it be that these dialogue windows for some reason appear outside your visible desktop area? I know similar things can happen in Windows, and there are ways to bring them back into view. Maybe this article might help:

For the Graphic options, is there something that describes what and hw to set that up? Is itt an existing file, that you modify and then save?

As for the OR API or Steam API. I know what you are saying, but haven't a clue as to which might be better and why. Probably a topic for the VR section.

Thanks again for the response and for the utility!

If you set a Saved Games Folder for a Build, It will generate Preset Files Based off the Current Options.lua

from there, when you launch DCS with Preset Selected, it will allow you to change and modify the options for that Preset, and when you exit DCS it will save for that specific Preset.

Oculus API vs SteamVR API, allows a Oculus User to use SteamVR Instead of Oculus.

The Benefits / Pros and Cons are not something I can tell you.
