The DCS Updater / Launcher GUI Utility Version 2.0 (2023+)

Recommended Posts

Whenever I press the Dedicated Server Mode button I get the following error message ... any idea why I'm having this problem? What file is it looking for? Both status lights are green for the DCS Folder Path and the Saved Games Folder Path.

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

For example:

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

That's nice to know ... why isn't it finding it? The DCS.exe file is located in the default location of C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta Server\bin directory. How can I fix this?

Wouldn't having two green squares after I press "Verify DCS Install and Saved Games Folders" button mean the paths are correct?

I scanned the entries they don't appear to be very helpful. I'm a C# programmer. I saw where you programmed this in VB.Net? Why not drop a FileDialog Class onto the form and show it when the file cannot be found and let us manually select it? Wrap it all into a try ... catch ... finally code block and we'd be on our merry way ...

Thanks,

if the files are missing, then the updater should automatically disable the buttons,

i dont know what order you're doing things to cause it to scan, detect DCS.exe then exception crash when you tell it to launch dedicated server since the DCS.exe is clearly there are detected.

the log doesnt save when there's an exception crash so I need to change that too.

But if you set a build, and launch DCS, then DCS should be able to launch a dedicated server as well, as it's simply DCS w/ Arguments.

I will add Exception Catch around all the DCS Functions just to be safe now.

But it sounds like the File is There, but when you launch Ded. Serv its not there, Make sure your Virus Scan is not picking it up and blocking it.

You are making the assumption that I can select a build, I cannot ... the button is grayed out. This OpenBeta installation of DCS is on a machine that is a Dedicated Server. DCS itself is not installed. However, the DCS.EXE is still located in the C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta Server\bin directory. So, that piece of information might help.

I tried to select the \bin subdirectory be then the square turns red instead of green.

The label on the Home page says "DCS STATUS: DCS WORLD RUNNING"

I hope we get this fixed ... I really need it.

Thanks so much for your help and insight ...

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello all. Please forgive me for failing to find it. I'm guessing it's in the forum and/or YouTube, I just failed to find it. I'm new to the GUI updater. I want to create a few different builds however, I don't understand how. Do I need multiple installs of DCS and my purchased content? Does the licensing allow for this? How do I set this up? Is it as simple as creating a separate directory and installing as if it were a new single install and point the updater to each .exe? Where would build #2, for example, create a saved games folder given the original exists on drive C: in the default location for example? Please forgive my failing to find the answer myself. I did try. Thank you.

A suuggestion and an issue.

My suggestion is forum related and not about the app itself. When you release the next update, could you lock this thread and start a fresh one? That way, any issues that come up with the new are not buried under the 100+ pages of previous messages?

Which relates to my issue. After reading about 50 pages of messages (from the front and the back) I do not see that anyone else has noticed this. When I start the GUI and then start DCS, everything is fine. However, when I close DCS and come back to the GUI, none of the Launch buttons will work. I have to restart the GUI for it to work again.

Thanks for doing this. I use this every time I start DCS and I really do like the app.

Do I need multiple installs of DCS and my purchased content?
Just copy/paste your current install to a new location.

Does the licensing allow for this?
Yes

How do I set this up? Is it as simple as creating a separate directory and installing as if it were a new single install and point the updater to each .exe?
Yes, installing and redownloading is in fact not needed, just copy/past your first installation to the new location.

Where would build #2, for example, create a saved games folder given the original exists on drive C: in the default location for example?
It will reside in the Saved Games folder under a second name like DCS World Beta.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Just copy/paste your current install to a new location.

do remember to add the registry keys if doing this, especially true if using viacom https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4311067&postcount=5

Guys,

I have not been in DCS for sometime now but the last time I was in I accessed it via this utility. Now when I select the utility Windows brings up a Notification box and it then disappears from the screen. Task manager show it is running but nothing I do gets me access to it. What is going on? I had changed my displays from 4K to 1080 P about a month ago to test another program and when I launched DCS from Skatezillas's Updater utility, the Screen was not accessible be because it has last been run in 4K so, I changed the Windows displays back to 4K and now I can run The updater, and when I select DCS world I get 2.5.5 which I have but I was running the latest 2.5.6 beta and cannot find it. Nothing has been deleted from my PC . I used THIS UPDATER UTILITY to manage all my DCS stuff and now I cannot access it. HELP!

I found 2.5.5 in C:\DCS and it launches without sound

and 2.5.6 in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta but the EXE. is missing. (I don't understand) I found DCS under the BIN folder and can launch it that way but I would really like to have my Skate Zilla Utility back. Any help would be much appreacited.

Is it possible to have different names for the presets on different builds? I don't think so, but it would be great.

For example, I have 2 builds - Stable and OB - and therefore there are 8 presets available - 4 in each relevant Saved Game folder. However, the 4 presets in each build have to have the same name as the name slots in the utility are not unique to each build.

I'll look into it, but there's a possibility of presets being disabled, as they are built into DCS Core now starting w/ the last open beta.

Thanks Skate. I hope ED will allow the preseets to be named soon, rather than Custom 1 etc.

At the moment, it is horribly clunky. If I want to switch between 2D and VR, I just select the preset in your utility and hit launch. Simple. Currently, AFAICS, to do the same within DCS, I would have to load DCS, go to Settings, select the preset, DCS would have to restart and all the hassle involing WMR and SteamVR. It is horrible! Please don't abandon presets in your utility.
