USN Callsigns?

Zaku

Recommended Posts

Right now the A-10 is the only airframe with unique callsign options, but I'd love to get some prominent F-14 squadron callsigns (Victory, Wichita, Gunfighter, Fast Eagle, etc) and modex-style numbering. ...and I'm just tired of the same 9 options for every fighter in DCS currently. Is there any chance of either of these happening?

Victory! I second this! There is no way I am going to fly the F-14 and call myself Ford or Hawg. I don't know if this would ED or developer driven though.

Take a look at all of these glorious Tomcat squadrons and their callsigns!

The problem may be the voice recording. You would need every voice in the sim to have those words. And some voice actors may even be not available anymore.

That being said: I also think we should have more.

- a few more for the Air Force (2-3)

- a few Navy ones (6-8 )

- a few generic ones/international for NATO operations (6-8 )

- a few for helicopters (5-6)

- a few more for JTACs and so on (2-4)

- a few civil ones perhaps, could be useful for some scenarios (2-4)

EDIT: actually civil ones might be easy. Just an input field allowing numbers and letters to be pronounced in NATO alphabet.

Not likely to happen soon though.

This could in theory become a community project. Give out a script and a list of requirements. Sort of like the "Best Screenshot becomes a logo" threads that pop up every once in a while. :)

In theory, yes.

But there's a problem: The existing voices would have to be upgraded with those new lines.

That being said:

I would love to contribute a completely new voice to the sim, including a number of call signs (I did such stuff before for another game, recording hundreds of short lines without starting to mumble or talk monotonously is harder than one would think).

EDIT: I also bumped another thread about this in the wish list section to help finding alternative options. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2689643#post2689643

In the case of CVW-1 in the DCS Mercenaries we have three callsigns.

Dog ( VF-143 )

Shrike ( VFA-94 )

Falcon ( HSM-78 )

Hopefully we will have those callsigns in game!

"Dog 201, tomcat ball, 4.3" has a nice ring to it...

It really does!

OP has it right --------- soooo want this to happen

but think of all the re-work they would have to do

they'd have to go back and re-record all the audio clips you hear : /

but i have hope - if they can give the graphics engine a whole overhaul, maybe they could do the same for the voice tracks

(and.. maybe SOMEday? missiles? and MP/networking?)

If they have the same voice talent, they could just use that to record the new voices. This would be a great time to record a host of Navy, Marine and AF callsigns.

Of course, new voices would need to record all audio clips, but I would be happy with additional voices as well.

i mean wouldn't they just have to record the names because of how the audio is structured? nothing is fixed everything such as callsigns and numbers and everything is stitched together depending on the current situation to form one sentence

sure would be cool if they could make an API so that the voice messages could be edited going forward

so its not such a big deal to make changes

look at all the countries that are selectable when you are building a mission or campaign and you are defining coalitions ----- does the current voice set cover all of them? no, not by a long shot

hopefully this is in the plans...

Would that really be that much work though? I doubt it. God forbid there's some new features in a new module packages that don't just involve the aircraft and it's systems.

if ED was thinking ahead and built-in the capability for expansion, then yes it would be "easy"

but if what we have now is "baked in" or hardcoded or what have you, then additional elements would represent a lot of work

That sucks, i didn't know that. But at the rate DCS:W is expanding i do think it would be a good idea for them to consider changing it , even if its hard.

I would hate to hear:

"Enfield 110 Tomcat ball, 4.3"

You don't have to hear it, because it doesn't work that way.

"Dog 201, tomcat ball, 4.3" has a nice ring to it...

When an aircraft on approach "calls the ball," they don't identify themselves with their radio callsign. They announce their aircraft modex number. The call goes (in the case of an F-14 "201, Tomcat ball, 4.3."
