Oculus Rift with DCS World Discussion

Recommended Posts

I have a RIFT and a 1080ti and have just followed some Optimising advice (tweaked NVIDIA, DCS settings, but didnt go near shaders). Im now getting much better Performance in VR. Before I was max 45fps and below with a noticible stutter at times. Now it seems to be locked solid on 45fps and pretty smooth and occasionally flips to @90fps. Can someone please explain what this flip/flop 45/90 is about and is it a sign I can do better...? Im not too familiar with GFX stuff so please use kiddie gloves 😛

As an example using Rift, if you're not able to maintain 90fps, ASW when enabled will reduce your fps to 45 while still giving you a smooth experience by interpolation.

Are you already getting the max fps from your VR HMD with your 6900XT?

Also there are several ASW options...RCTR + 1, 2, 3, or [4 which is auto]

I see you have mentioned the 45/90 fps thing here... Im getting my fps pegged solid on 45 and the ocasional flip to 90 or so. Its quite smooth, in fact best I have had but can I tweak to get more... Whats this about?

Not an expert, but for what i know:

Your Rift work at 90 or 45 fps.

If your system can achieve 90 fps, no problem,

If your system don't reach 45 or 90 fps, the ASW (asincronous something... 🤪) "interpolate" the missing frames to 45 or 90 fps.

If your sim is smooth at 45 fps, probably your system is capable to reach and mantain 45 fps but not 90 (or only in some cases), and probably most of the time your fps are inbetwen 45 to 90.

Sorry for my english and for the confusion...

Question: if I want better visual while maintaining good framerate, should I go to change the PD value in DCS VR Setting, or change the headset resolution? I am using Quest2 and Oculus native VR app.

If you change on Oculus it will affect to all your games, if DCS only DCS os affected, performance must be the same

Sorry my question was not clear -- would it be preferred to change the PD value or the resolution of the headset?

It doesn't really make a difference. I use the in-game PD setting.

Question: Is anyone else having an issue with dual throttle positioning in the hornet? I noticed that the right engine throttle keeps positioning slightly ahead of the left - when I have bock locked together on the warthog. And it affects flight, drifting to the left until I unlock the two and adjust until they're even in the cockpit.

Question: if my rig and  setting allows me to go as fast as possible, can Quest2/Rift 2 actually run beyond 45 fps with ASW?

Also is there a way to set the ASW setting, other than off, automatically? I tried the command line version of Oculus Debug Tool, but it does not work. I tried OTT but it messes up the frame rate.

After putting on my Rift S, the menu wobbles slightly (sometimes more serious but unplug and plug the USB wire would reduce it wobble). So after I entered the game and sitting in the cockpit, I could see the cockpit also wobbles slightly, does anyone else encouter the same issue and any advise or solution would be much appreciated.

Thanks! 🙂

Does your Quest 2 do it too?

Put Rift S on the desk with proximity sensor activated to see if it wobbles on a mirror screen. If not - it comes from your head movement.

You can, using a BAT file to launch DCS. I use a BAT to launch DCS to load TARGET script, set DCS and Oculus priority to high and set custom FOV and ASW on Oculus

Thanks. Eventually I find that I did the batch file wrong so after I fix it, it runs fine now.

I used to get exactly that with IL2, ever so slight wobble but more than enough to notice ,

sorted it by using open composite instead of steam vr to run the sim.

Wobbling would typically indicate a tracking issue.

I would try resetting the tracking. In other words go through tracking setup again.

Quest 2 wobbles too but the level is insignificant and acceptable, I could feel that it's coming from my head shake or heartbeat. But with Rift S, it kinda bounces up and down irregularly (even in Oculus VR menu, the console bounced with the same behavior).

But after unplug the USB and plug it again, the wobbling reduces but still noticeable.

Could you please explain more on the open composite (how to solve the problem)?

I'm not using steam VR, but I click on the DCS name in my steam game list, then in the pop up window, I click "Start DCS in Oculus VR (something like this)" option to activate the game.

Hello. I just purchased an Oculus Rift S and I would like to know the experiences of the users with it thanks.

Absolutely love it, with my eyes it’s very clear and can read and spot things great.  I only use oculus software and don’t use any Vr shader mod.  Hand controllers in my pit work awesome for flipping switches that not organic to a hotas.  My system is 8700k at 5ghz 32 Gsb ram and 1080ti.  I run much higher settings than I can in wmr with an odyssey +.

V33 for Quest/Quest2 has a new feature which sharpens the images over Link or AirLink. Anyone tried it yet? I am still in V32...

Okay, I am tired of waiting and just manually updated to V33 (find the details in Reddit) and Whoa! it is even sharper on my Quest2 than in MSAA x2 and I turn it off for adding performance.

One more thing: no setting to tweak what-so-ever, just link up and fly.

I dunno if it is sharper than G2, but I am dang sure it is sharper than the Real World(tm). Need more tests to see if it hits performance and battery life or not.

MSAA will gives you less aliased image at the cost of some blurry, sharpening from oculus gives you better clarity and more aliased picture.

Im surprised you NOW turn off MSAA, in any case you will need more.
