I asked someone to check the code internally on the gun, and that all checks out apparently, and I did reference the code you guys posted about earlier as well.

Still looking into it though.

Some notes:

By the way - if you fire the bullets at 750 mph at low altitude you can be close to them after 14 seconds. for the fresh barrels of course

Hi.

This problem is very annoying. I'm flying behind the MiG-15 at a distance of about 100m in a slight turn, aiming ahead of him with the appropriate correction! and all the bullets fly under him. Really, this is a basic error in the F-86 from a very long time.

Did you save the track, the more data I can collect the better.

Lipas,

Go into your scripts/database/weapons folder and find the shell.lua file. Using a Notepad++ editor, find the M2-Browning or M3, M50 and APIT about 20% of the way down the file. Edit the muzzle velocity to be 875-899 m/s. One round is already 875 and works well, the 830 round is ridiculous.

I'm sorry, this fix is so easy, all the arguments and resistance up to now are just plain weird given the known historical facts about the matchup over Korea. Slow Cannon, Fast gun. It's a trade off and always will be. Sure gattling guns now use 20 or 30mm with rotary barrel arrays, but this was not the case over MiG Alley. Just fix it for crying out loud. You will be very pleased by the improvement, completely realistic. If a part of you wants revenge and some payback for the historical slight, crank it up to 905 or higher for laser like precision. Tag some MiGs from 2000 meters ;) Oh, that is another area you want to fix, increase your effective range in the aircraft files or wherever visible. With a proper machine gun round, you can hit your target at about 0.5 miles with some luck.

And another thing, why does this late E model Sabre with the 6-4 wing and sidewinders, have the crappy early 830m/s round?

Type of gun? Good. But how accurate. comparatively, are the gun dynamics between the machine gun and cannon (heat and warp)? Is there a difference between machine gun and cannon dynamics in the math/materials physics? I am not so worried about this because the simple factor of muzzle velocity that IS in the sim files, is easily corrected and has a clear controllable result in game. Thanks regardless for the effort. It would be nice to know how the barrel heat and warp equations are supposed to work, but that may be proprietary so we may have to let that be.

If the gun dynamics are considered by developers to be correct (which I highly doubt), then we need to file a report for the radar sight instead. Slow turn or in the vertical does not matter. Pipper on enemy canopy and the bullets fall behind the aircraft. It does not provide the correct lead.

Right. Kill the heat and warp in the .lua down by 75% and to a factor of 1. Much more realistic.

The black clouds was a new effects mod. Cool for a moment but then gets old fast because it obscures your view. A bit excessive. The sparks and glints in the wicked old game MiG Alley were great.

I guess BST took some creative licenses when they made this thing years ago, as heat and warp most likely is not specified in any type of technical document.

Why would a "modern" F-86F with sidewinder capability have 830 m/s round? Why does the bullets fly anywhere but where I put the pipper? Pipper on enemy aircraft and the bullets fall way behind. Using the radar sight, flying steady, I can see the tracers going all over the place, like a garden hose. It does not correspond with anything I have read or watched when it comes to the Sabre.

IRL. Why did they put a radar supported sight on this thing if precision is this bad? :)

Devs should (as Squiffys recommendation) tune down the excessive heat and warp. Also have another look at the muzzle velocity of those rounds.

USAF Museum quotes F-86 M3 as having a muzzle velocity of 2,870 feet per second (875 m/s).

The gunsight has all kinds of problems with reliability, but when it was set up right and working, it was accurate. It is funny how the P-51D gunsight is fairly accurate, but the later F-86 gunsight with radar ranging far less accurate.
