Other than the obvious, "slam RPM throttle to zero immediately", what do you do in that situation? You're still probably redlining RPM while going 150mph level and trying to increase throttle/speed just pushes your RPMs higher.

 

Is there a trick or backup I don't know about?

You can still apply power but try to not exceed 3500 RPM Also you can enter a gradual climb to slow the prop. You should be fine as long as you don't have to dogfight or evade.

And immediately trade excessive speed to altitude to avoid windmilling overrev.
