Low fps in 1.5.3 compared to Belsimtek UH-1D

Yep - maybe. This mouse issue took me 2 weeks to solve. When the polling rate was set to 1000, the game had a low framerate everytime I moved the mouse/flying over cities. The mouse got 1000 reports per second, everytime you do something with it - and that was the issue here.

I have a standard mouse, but will check the polling rate when I get home.

For the ppl owning the Nevada map, how do frame rate compares between the 2 in the Gazelle (versus 1.5.3 beta) ?

Not sure how the Gazelle runs compared to the other modules in 2.0.2, but FPS with the Gazelle in 2.0.2 is around 30, while only at 16 in 1.5.3.b.

For those who have a logitech mouse and logitech gaming software installed. I recently had performance issues because I raised the polling rate of my mouse to 1000. I lowered it to 500 and the game runs smooth. It "might" be an issue.

The 1.5 Beta runs smooth here.

I cannot confirm that. By myself i use following products of Logitech:

Headset G35

Gameboard G13

Keyboard G910

Mouse G502

As you mentioned I lowered the polling rate from 1000 to 500 and I didn't noticed any improvement.

For testing this, i placed a "cold" SA-342 on Lochini parking slot 78. Everytime I switch from pilot (58-60 fps) to copilot the fps drops down to 24.

Same test on NTTR pilot and copilot have stable 54 fps.

So....

Here follows a more comprehensive test with DCSW 2.0.2.

I simply started with the Gazelle, then Mi-8, then Uh-1H, then Ka-50 and then back to the Gazelle within the mission editor)

I have two scenarios.

One in the desert at a FARP - almost no objects apart from a few buildings and a highway with civil traffic:

Gazelle FARP 44 fps / 5617mb video RAM (Loaded via mission builder)

Mi-8 FARP 55 fps / 6638mb Video RAM (25% fps increase over Gazelle)

UH-1H FARP 63 fps / 7322mb Video RAM (43% fps increase over Gazelle)

Ka-50 FARP 60 fps / 8060mb Video RAM (36% fps increase over Gazelle)

Gazelle FARP 46 fps / 8599mb Video RAM

Then I moved to McCarran Las vegas airport after having restarted DCSW 2.0.2:

Gazelle Las Vegas 16 fps / 6780mb Video RAM (Loaded via mission builder)

Mi-8 Las Vegas 23 fps / 7991mb Video RAM (44% fps increase ove Gazelle)

UH-1D Las Vegas 26 fps /8675mb Video RAM (63% increase over Gazelle)

Ka-50 Las Vegas 21 fps / 9424mb Video RAM (31% increase over Gazelle)

Gazelle Las Vegas 18 fps / 9964mb Video RAM

As You can see - in DCSW 2.0.2 the worst performing helo other than the Gazelle at the FARP is the Mi-8 with mirrors on, performs 25% better than the Gazelle.

At McCarran Las vegas the worst performing helo other than the Gazelle is the Ka-50 with ABRIS and SKHVAL On, performs 31% better than the Gazelle.

I don´t have a Logitech mouse and thus no option to adjust mouse polling (Using the standard Win7 Mouse driver).

For no reason (I can see) should the Gazelle perform worse than even the Ka-5 with far more mouseclickable switches, levers and buttons, which even has two "MFD"'s (ABRIS and SKHVAL) which both where turned On during both tests.

Video memory usage is not higher than the other heli's, but the measurments reveals a problem with DCSW 2.0.2, cause as You can see for each til You go back and forth between the sim and the mission builder, video RAM increases.

After first having loaded the Gazelle and then loading the Mi-8, UH-1H; Ka-50 and then back to the Gazelle Video memory consuption increses by 2982mb at the FARP and 3184mb at McCarran.

So something is wrong with the Gazelle performance wise.

Note that using the Gazelle the Vivianne system was Off during all tests, so performance dregradation due to this shoulod not happen.

And something is also wrong with DCSW 2.0.2 in regards to Video memory consumption (which has been reported in numerous posts).

I get lower FPS with SA342M than UH1H in DCS 1.5 Open Beta

UH-1H: 70 FPS

SA342M: 60 FPS, when I opened Video Command Box, FPS downed to 50 and 40.

My Specs: i7 4790, 16 Gb Ram DDR3, GTX 680. Win 7 64bit.

Tried the static tank mission again, fps vary greatly throughout the mission, from 50 to 60 at the Farp, then around 45 in flight and then it randomly drops to 25ish above villages to then go back up towards 45 above the town next to the criss crossed runways.

Deactivated tree shadows.

Edit: external views have pretty high fps, 50 to 60.

I can confirm the same issue in 1.5.3. I put together a mission starting at Batumi in an F-86 rampstart. Just sitting in the cockpit with nothing on, I get 45-60 fps looking all around. Same mission but in the Gazelle and I get 19-22 fps. No idea why. Another note, if I place my Gazelle at one of the Russian airfield like Nalchek then the FPS is back up in the 50s and 60s. Any thing down by the Batumi area though runs like a cement mixer for me but only for the Gazelle. The other modules don't seem to have the same issues. Strange.

I have also a very low FPS with the SA342 in 1.5 (Non Beta). I have 10 fps flying and 13-15 in the FARP with the engine off. Can´t play with it.

In Nevada it works better.

I don´t have this problem with other modules.

"Could" some of the low FPS be caused by the gauges glass acting as a mirror? ive noticed they have reflections in them which is AWSOME, but could this be hitting some players? i dont have these issues tho.

I don´t think so.

Normally such reflections ar made differently from the mirrors as we know them from the Mi-8 etc.

They are not rendered like these mirrors, but is rather done via specular and reflection mapping.

Often the reflected image is generic, thus if not corrected You might see forrest, mountains and water reflected, even when the surrounding is desert.

Hi.

I'd like to know from the developers if this is a topic that they are looking at, and if it is expected an improvement to match the fps of every other model in DCS (as per the values provided by the users here).

My machine is not a beast, still I have 40-60 fps with my new Huey.

I am enjoying the helicopter so much that I am looking at the Gazelle now, so I searched the Gazelle forum for 'fps' and found this thread.

I know the minimum and recommended requirements are listed, and I won't complain if I get this model and have low fps, so I'll keep a look in case some optimization is done and I dare to buy, or maybe I'd be safer going for another copter even when this is the one I want to see right next to the Huey in my hangar.

Just for added reference, can you guys start adding your simulator settings (high, medium, or low) so we can reference that as well?

Graphic engines I believe are still slightly different between 2.0.2 and 1.5.3 so that could be contributing to the issue.

have the same issues, grafics on high 30 fps on nevada and 10 fps on caucasus

i7 3.2

8 gb ddr3

ati r9 290 4gb

i flew around Caucasus MP blue flag yesterday and didnt drop below 60fps when out flying around the airports on can become a mess at times and get down in the 40's and that is where forcing 3d clocks on the video card will give you a few extra FPS. i use ASUS GPU TWEAK as it came with my card but there is also a program called CLOCKBLOCKER that does the same.

if your on 8GB ram and a HDD and your getting issues looking around turning your head is laggy then you need to look at getting a SSD and maby upgrading to 16gb ram.

I have exact same issues, 60fps in huey 20-15 in gaz. But check this out, when I look down in pilot seat at where my lap would be my FPS shoots up to 40...consistently. No idea what that is about. Is there a way to remove that damn yaw string? lol

I confirm FPS drop since last update. My rig handled the Gazelle well with 60 fps on ultra settings in 1.5.3 (now round about 30 fps, going lower over cities).

So I believe it has nothing to do with version 1.5.3 but with that beautiful bird as the behaviour is NEW since update and compared to other DCS modules it seems that the Gazelle is the only one affected so far.

For me, it’s the ›Textures‹ in the game options. Setting this to ›low‹ or ›medium‹ the Gazelle works like any other module. Setting it to ›high‹ and I get a slideshow, unplayable, while the other modules still run fine. Maybe this helps someone to enjoy this really fine module.

Observed in 1.5.3 Beta with a GTX570

please note: english isn’t my first language, I‘m still learning. Please feel free to contact me when you think something I wrote is not clear, simply wrong or just should be corrected – thx

That is a good hint...

Maybe the texture resolutions used are too high .

  • 2 weeks later...

This are my FPS with the options Low, Med and High config graphics flying out of combat, offline. Only in a navigation flight.

IMPORTANT: NO BOKEH, NO SIMPLE activated. NO HDR activated. Until I bought the SA342 I had 1024 each fotogram but I´ve changed it because of the SA342 to 512 each fotogram trying to have more FPS. No mods activated. No more programs running, only DCS with TIR 5

I´ve noticed that TV on/off affect the fps like mirrors...

If you go to:

\DCS World\Config\terrain

You will find many lua files that control the wy DCS looks... beside the option.lua from C:\Users\YOUR.USER.NAME\Saved Games\DCS\Config

Most important here are the quality lua file you use... Extreme if you have extreme profile, etc and MapMFD.lua Mirrors.lua Reflections.lua. You can try to play with the values there to squeeze more FPS.
