dburne
Ok so got to spend some more time with my new EVGA GTX 1080 FTW this morning. First I did some more flying in 1.54, namely the Convoy Hunt single mission in the KA-50. I have been flying that mission often and figured it would be best to use it to compare/ At least for this mission, can't say I saw much difference. But this mission has always been kind of strange on GPU performance, starting out it is only using like 25% of the GPU. I flew the entire mission, and really did not notice any serious difference in performance. Then - I launched DCSW2 Open Alpha. And there, the new card really shined. Again I flew a mission I had flown often with my previous GTX 970 FTW, to compare. Now with the 970, my framerates over downtown Las Vegas were in the 70's. With the new 1080, they were around 110 fps. Very nice improvement. Pretty sure I can crank in some more graphics detail in DCSW2 with this new card, and they were already cranked fairly high to start. Little disappointed in 1.54 with the new card, but I should fly some other missions to compare there may be something about that Convoy Hunt mission that is amiss. That mission just does not make good use of the GPU's power. I am sure eventually when everything gets updated and merged into 2.5, overall performance will be closer to what it is in 2.0 and maybe even little better after they tweak some more. I held out and went with the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW because I love their cards and have been loyal to them going all the way back to the 280. Never really had an issue with them. My FTW boosts to like 1974 MHz stock, pretty good. I may see if I can get it between 2-2.1 ghz... Enduro14
Ya mine stock i have seen boosts in dcs world up to 2025, 2050mhz. Impressive these new cards. Your low gpu use is probaly the old single thread on processor thing with the engine slowing it down. Happens to me also at times. Majinbot
Here is almost impossible to find a custom gtx1080, I just ordered a MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Armor 8G OC. I hope to have bought a good one, I found no review for this card... KLR Rico
I think you'll be good with any of the name brands. I got the MSI Aero OC, it's the first MSI card I've ever bought and it's doing fine. It wasn't my first choice just because it has a blower cooler, but I found it for $650 and I couldn't deal with the endless wait for a custom card that wasn't outrageously marked up. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS

I paid more than I should have for the Zotac, but it was still the best price I had seen from anyone that actually had them in stock. BlackFly25
What kind of temps are you guys getting with your 1080s? I'm Running the Asus Strix and at 2050MHz it's maxed out at 63C in a room without air conditioning (about 28C ambient) and fans at 45-50%. BlackFly25
It's a fantastic card and has exceed my expectations, however, I think the ASUS GPU Tweak software is bugged...I've noticed the fan controller eats up a huge chunk of CPU resources. I use MSI Afterburner to overclock and set fan curves and have absolutely no issues. Hopefully ASUS fixes whatever is bugged on their own software so I can give that another shot, but if not MSI's Afterburner still works great. JaBoG32_Prinzartus
I did it. Got myself a Asus Strix 1080. A monstrous piece of hardware, that is. Card runs quite cool, because GPU Utilisation is quite low with DCS. I have about 50%-65% GPU Usage with dcsw 1.54. Aginor
Just out of curiosity, because I once had a nasty surprise when a graphics card didn't fit in my housing (it was longer than the board and collided with a hard disk frame, that sucked): When you compare measurements, are those new cards even bigger than two or three years ago (7XX, 9XX series)? So basically: If I replace a 770 with one of those, is that likely to still fit? DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

Tell me about it, some missions it runs even lower. In the KA-50 Convoy Hunt single mission, GPU utilization is in the 20's percent range. Framerates for me in that mission with the 1080 are the same as with the 970 card I just pulled out of it. I am really looking forward to DCS 2.5...
