JughedJones
I recently got a 980ti and my 1080 60hz monitor seems a little silly at this point. I can't go crazy, but i'd really like the Benq XL2730z http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014451 I really don't want to go over this price point (this is really pushing it as it is!) My question is, I've noticed that monitors with G-sync are much more expensive than comparable models without. This one has "Free-Sync" which I know won't do me any good with my nvidia card. Is there a monitor out there either with G-Sync or without either that checks all the same boxes? resolution, refresh speed, quality, etc... that's cheaper? I can't find another model that has all of these qualities for less. In other words, am I throwing money away on free-sync? Should I be looking somewhere else? What do you guys think? Hadwell
Free-sync and G-sync are two different things, G-sync is an Nvidia propriatary hardware solution, a physical chip built into the monitor, free-sync is an open-standard, I think part of the vesa standard. nvidia doesn't support free-sync though, so I don't think you can use it with a 980ti. Yup, I get that part. Just wanted to know if there's another comparable monitor, that has all the features of the Benq I listed, that is cheaper. If it has G-sync.. great.. if not.. whatever! Hadwell
yeah, hopefully, with the new 1080 and 1070 coming, more people will be getting into 4K gaming, that'll bring the price of high-end 1440p monitors down, will probably kill 1080p. 1 My youtube channel Remember: the fun is in the fight, not the kill, so say NO! to the AIM-120. TwilightZone
also at Amazon........ "Dell 27 Monitor for serious gamers. Experience sharp, un-distorted moving images with NVIDIA G-SYNC and the fastest refresh rate at 144 Hz. Enjoy incredibly swift and responsive action with minimum input lag at an extremely rapid 1ms panel response time. Lose yourself in the details of stunning QHD (2560x1440 at 144 Hz) resolution - close to two times more details than Full HD"........not bad at $538. PureEvil
will monitor be used for fps games or just DCS? i've been reading alot about PLS panel monitors, great colour and viewing angles they have compared to TN panels. those PLS type of monitors don't have that 1ms speed, but not all of us really need it, considering some people are ok with large TV's and slow speed they have, for flight sims. BitMaster
I would not change my Asus 27" Gsync against any other 4k or such without Gsync and if it comes with a fps penalty. 1440p is s sweetspot right now where current cards can push massive fluent fps on monitors that you can actually buy. Both works real great. 980Ti and 1440 is a perfect match, hook up a gsync...you wont regret it. NO FPS, just flight sims and Elite Dangerous for the most part. You may be right that I don't need to stand firm on the 1ms speed. Malefic Rage
You may be right that I don't need to stand firm on the 1ms speed. IMO the benefits of 1ms redraw rates are highly overrated. I doubt they've even been subjectively tested. Dividing 1 second (1000ms) by 1ms gives 1000 redraws per second. When you consider that the average monitor only refreshes at 60 to 144 Hz, there would be little benefit in theory. Even at a more common 5ms redraw rates you still get 200 per second. IMO get the better quality monitor. As a point of consideration though, the advertised redraw rates are usually in ideal testing situations. IRL you'll see up to 15ms in practice depending on the colour change.
T_A
I Just made an order for Asus MG279Q , which is 1440P, IPS, 144Hz ,4MS, Freesync. i have NVIDIA card but G-Sync is just too much more money , no way i can justify the difference, and i wont settle for a TN at this price range. Well, a Freesync monitor @ 144Hz isn't going to be anything special when hooked to an Nvidia card. If fact, I would be surprised if you don't end up running it at 60Hz just to maintain smooth frame rates. T_A
The Freesync part is just a bonus, i know i cant use it and probably never will. but over here the difference between this monitor and the g-sync version (ROG Swift PG279Q) is 500$. i rather chase GPU upgrades till i get to 144 fps locked maybe with GTX 1080 maybe not, than buy into all sorts of proprietary solutions.
