Clouds mod

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I'm not sure if this helps at all but I have a 980Ti and am suffering with the mountains lines bleeding through the clouds and also white lines around the aircraft same as Enduro14.

What I have found is if I go into the settings and change the Shadow settings to something different from when I started DCS all of the lines go away and I am left with beautiful clouds. I can then change the Shadow Options to anything I want and do not suffer with any lines.

However when I restart DCS all the lines come back and I have to repeat as above.

Hope that helps

Weird does nothing for my setup. Quest continues for me

Hi Mustang. You made an amazing job ! :o This is what i call nice cloud.

I have just a little question, do you think that it's so possible to create for DCS cloud like cumulobimbus ? This is the one that really miss in our simulator.

(not asking you to do them, just asking if you think this cloud are possible to code into DCS)

I'll try, here is some attempt at cumulus clouds - much of this is trial and error with the lua/fx/hlsl modifications, sometimes the results are ugly and sometimes really nice and surprising :)

I tried this mod a bit, the result is really great so far. Still have issue with anti aliaising and a moderate fps impact.

On the visual aspect , it looks very good, yet it would be even better if it doesn't have always this foggy aspect. Some cloud relief , cavity, bump would be nice to see too.

Also Some lightning issues, clouds get a strange yellow color at dawn.

I don't know however if this is at the moment technicaly possible.

Please keep up the good work :)

Indeed a huge fps impact to me, from 55-60 to less than 40 and sometimes only 30 fps. But totally worth it to try.

Now the clouds aren't so fluffly any more. Instead they have hard edges. Love it!

Cumulus clouds are usually flat-ish on the bottom, and fluffy on top. The reason is that the cloud is formed by warm rising air (a thermal), which turns to fog when the thermal reaches the dew point altitude. The air continues to rise, however, causing the cloud top to billow up and out, if there is enough wind. These clouds also have a life cycle. As the wind moves the cloud away from the source of the thermal, the cloud begins to die and eventually fades away.

Amazing pictures!!

i would love to see more if possible :D ...any chance to get rid of the upper "planar" surface of some clouds?? I mean, making them more round up to the top...that would be amazing!!

thanks!!

EDIT: Btw, is there any way to create several clouds layers?? Thats something DCS really lacks...

Quick question,

For some reason having them installed makes the edges of any terrain look like I have no AA or AF. AF is set to 16 and AA is set to 8xQ.

Any ideas?

Are you using SweetFX? This may have a role in that perhaps.

Already made a report in Mustang's texture mod thread, but I gotta say that DCS has never been so beautiful. A shame they don't work on my favorite MP servers, but at least Im having fun with the single player missions, campaigns etc...

FPS hit is moderate to hard, still on my RIG never drops below 40 FPS (1.5.6) (1440p) which is very acceptable actually.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
