it will definetely change performance somehow, since the lua files do change some settings. it is not magic or placebo, you can just compare the old and new files.

so for example it seems that starway reduces some render distances of stuff in the mirrors, which would suggest that this might enhance performance (if you had mirrors enabled before too).

he also changes a lot of stuff with the shadow settings, so this will change how shadows are rendered farther away from you etc.

i don't know how exactly these settings work, but they seem to be seperate for outside and cockpit view and he changes them for all the various option settings (shadow quality flat, low, etc).

the shadow file might have typos in them, the original ends with }, and}; but starways shadow.lua does just use } } ..... i am not fluent in lua. no idea if that is a problem or not.

on my pictures you see the original dcs files LEFT, starways files RIGHT.

i don't know much about lua, so starway can probably explain all his changes much more detailed (excuse me, if he already did in one of the 50+ pages before in this thread :)

Done! Can Finally return to the Caucasus again... NTTR made the old map almost unplayable for me. It was like going back in time to LockOn 1 after being spoiled with Nevada. Thanks for sorting us out Starway! Now if I can just get my grubby little mitts on that Bucc...

Thank you for your hard work Starway! marvelous!

I wonder about compatibility with Mustang No Tree Shadow Mod. Does it work with these DLC or maybe we do not need it anymore? Because I had a great gain of FPS by disabling the tree shadow with Mustang mod...

Nice mod however im finding really bad stutter, Now im not sure if its mirage related or starway texture related single mission mirage free flight with smoke, Now with smoke off its not so bad stutters here and there with smoke on its terrible, Again not sure if its starways mod or a Razbam bug?

Edit: Its worse over trees (Aslo pc specs in sig)

Great news. I'd be curious to hear you thoughts on the option of ED integrating them with the stock Caucasus map now that you've released it to public domain and once it's updated to be T4 compatible.

At least from the user perspective it would seem as a very convenient thing so the mod doesn't have to be deactivated prior to each update.

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

Agree totally:thumbup: This should be the default. First time I've used JSGME this is top notch work Starway!

Fully agree, that would make it much more practical, hope it will be fine with ED and yourself!

You think ED could use these textures as a default option till they upgrade their map? It's worth asking.

I agree also, but now that the obligations have been fulfilled and it is now free to the community, whats to stop ED from making this the new stock textures since it is to their standards anyway and the majority of the community prefers these textures compared to the original ED version? I would say ED should now take these textures and make them the default.
