Martijnvdm Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Hi Guys, Last week i bought the Mig 21. A long time ago i tried some A-10 but never really got into it. The newer modules however made me come back and wanted to try the Mig first. I installed DCS World 1.5 first and then the Mig and A10. After some research i found out that there is newer version of DCS World that's currently in open BETA. This update would give some nice upgrades to the current engine, but also requires the new Nevada map. I'm only going to fly the MIG the next couple of month's but still would like to know if it's to upgrade to 2.0 or not. Does this change anything for the MIG and the current map i'm flying on? Last question. I bought all the modules from STEAM. Do i need to transfer these modules then? Thank you Grt Martijn
Art-J Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Version 2.0 is an alpha-version for testing Nevada map only. It doesn't work with current Caucasus map. Thus You cannot upgrade Your current version, You have to create a second, separate install of DCS for that. There are two problems to consider, though: 1) 2.0 and Nevada map are not available through Steam at the moment. If You want these, You have to install them outside of Steam; 2) Both versions are also updated separately. As a result, as of now, the MiG in 1.5.3 is actually more polished and less buggy than in 2.0. It might change soon, but the bottom line is - higher number doesn't always mean better features. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

Grt Martijn I guess it will be called DCS 2.5 by then, as 1.5 and 2.0 Alpha will be merged (hopefully soon) into 2.5, at which point both maps should run in the same install. :) Specs: i9 10900K @ 5.1 GHz, EVGA GTX 1080Ti, MSI Z490 MEG Godlike, 32GB DDR4 @ 3600, Win 10, Samsung S34E790C, Vive, TIR5, 10cm extended Warthog on WarBRD, Crosswinds
SirBunker Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 1.5 already has the new engine upgrades. The only major difference between 1.5 and 2.0 is the available map. If you just want to fly the MiG-21, you're better off installing 1.5 now and enjoying it in its fullness :)
