DCS World doesn't recognize modifier!

Hi.

 

Problem: I use pinkie switch (it was JOY_BTN6 in Saitek X-52, and it's JOY_BTN5 in X-55) on my Saitek stick as modifier.

 

As long as my HOTAS is connected, there's no problem. But, IF I accidentally (or in purpose) run DCS World without HOTAS (and then quit DCS World, plug HOTAS and again run DCS World), I see that DCS World doesn't recognize my pinkie modifier. That's why all commands with pinkie are listed in red color in Controls Page.

 

Note: I don't keep my HOTAS plugged to PC every minute. Sometimes I run DCS (without HOTAS) to watch some tracks made by forum users or check controls or test something cockpit or mission...

 

Well, OK. It's not the end of the world, but why? Why DCS forgets modifier of HOTAS?

Actually this issue (or not) comes from older versions of DCS World. Those times DCS didn't use diff.lua system. And I was editing the default lua (HOTAS and keyboard) files directly not to assign all commands from the beginning after every update! And I was adding my modifier of HOTAS in modifier.lua (with stick's registry number). So, DCS didn't forget anything. That was (or is) perfect solution, if you like to typing on keyboard for long time, and to struggle with command lines, luas etc.

 

After Gazelle release, I just wanted to "try" diff.lua system (like other "normal" pilots), but I see that this issue still exists. :mad:

I had same problem when I used the x52, only I had it all the time, even if I kept the x52 connected.

I suspect it is a Saitek driver issue, rather than a DCS issue, because of the way you can work around it:

 

If you keep the Saitek control panel open (the one that shows all buttons and axis), then DCS recognises the pinkie switch as a separate switch, and you can use it as modifier.

If you close the control panel window, DCS again does not recognize the pinkie switch as a separate switch.

If I run DCS without HOTAS, somehow DCS forgets modifiers.

 

Next time I run DCS with HOTAS, but DCS doesn't recognize modifiers. I have to re-set the modifiers.
