DCS-SimpleRadio Standalone

A couple of us have had one or two of the radios stop working and showing zeros in the on-screen frequency overlay. Nothing untoward in any of the 3 SRS logs.

Anyone had anything similar

Were you damaged or were the radios turned off / have enough power?

If there is a problem between dcs and the SRS you'll get nothing on any radio.

If you have some radios and not others working in an airframe then that is DCS telling SRS that. :)

What soundcard do you have?

SRS uses the same audio APIs as TeamSpeak, do you have the same issue with that?

Either way it sounds like DCS is somehow set to take "exclusive access" of your sound.

https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/211166003-How-to-Disable-Exclusive-Mode-in-Windows-Sound-Preferences

^ will show you how to stop that so they all work together :)

Strange: from one day to the next, the problem couldn't be reproduced.

I set the exclusive access anyway, thanks for the link!

IMO the noise degradation on the A-10C UHF radio is too severe.

The distance is based on Line of sight, radio power and frequency using Friis equation. If you search this thread you can see a breakdown of the calculation used. What you're saying doesn't sound right though so i'll check the degradation factor :)

We had that problem again on a recent training flight.

#1 and I (#3) were about 18 nm apart, mid-air, above 12,000 ft, when he called the tanker on UHF. I could barely hear him and he responded to my radio check with 2 by 5.

We then checked VHF AM and it was crystal clear, 5 by 5.

I guess somewhere deep down in the code the UHF sets too much degradation. :smartass:

After few months inacitivity I've returned to DCS and updated SR to the last version, however I do have wierd problem - I can hear anything. Mic input is there, when I click to hear myself I can see both input and output volume meters active. Yet no sound, no matter if just in Windows or in game. I've tried to swap all combinations of input and output devices available in the dropboxes but with no success. I cannot see SR application in windows volume mixer either, which might be the issue. Any ideas?

Hi Bob,

People who join the MiG 21 in multiplayer missions I've created are finding that the preset radio channels don't match up with one another and so they're not able to communicate via SRS. I don't personally own the MiG 21 and have noticed that unlike owners, I don't have a preset radio menu in the ME. Are you familiar with this issue, and would you know of a workaround?

Ciribob, I'd like to raise a feature request. Can we have the option to start SRS minimized, and can we have to option to move SRS to tray when minimized?

I'll add this to the list

If it worked on VHF then yes it'll be the Friis equation and I'll reduce the scaling a bit. Thanks for the test and detailed information!

The process is best to first get the microphone input right, by looking for the bars moving with the sound of your voice when previewing.

After that - i'd go to the windows sound manager and right click and disable any outputs you're not using - this just makes a much smaller list of you to work through when testing the output :)

I will try to improve upon the audio selection - maybe have a button for select default windows output device for ease (or by default)

Did the chat on discord help? I.e setting the mig frequencies after installing the modules?

Sorry for the lack of updates or progress, been busy with BlueFlag scripts and paid work :D

Away for a week or so but i'll get an update out with some minor fixes soon :)

Help :)

Hi Andrei!

No problems here with W10 Creators Update.

MSI Afterburner or similar running? I´ve to switch off MSI Afterburner in order to run SRS or other applications like ORBX FTX control panel.

I'll be damned.. Switching off MSI Afterburner helped. I would have never figured that.

Thanks a lot for the help!

P.S. The funny thing is - before creators update (and it's .NET 4.7 framework) MSI Afterburner and SR happily worked together.

Same here. Something related to .NET 4.7

Updating the RivaTuner to the last beta "seems" to solve the problem. I´m able to run MSI AB and SRS and other applications as FTX central again.

Can you try it?

Yepp, that worked as well, both running OK now.

Many thanks again!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey Ciribob,

First a big "Thanks!" as always, SRS is still one of the most important tools for me ;)

I might ask a question you are getting tired of to answer, but is there any rough idea/plan if/how to fix the issue that there is a sound-distortion as soon as 2 radios are receiving at the same time?

During the last big mission of our squadron I had to deactivate one of my radios because I simply could not understand a thing anymore :(

Br,

kreisch

Simple there are not full duplex radios in dcs

The problem is not two transmitters on the same freq.

The problem is the distortion when there are transmissions on two independent radios at the same time.

As I recall it, the problem was alleviated a while ago, but is not completely fixed yet.
