Is a reply I made in this thread:

There I then noticed that the Mirage is a bit heavy.

- Edit: I should ad that this is while using the Rift, in case that has any influence, and completely disables the LOD system or something. Cause I have noticed some odd performance behavior, in general.

Just had a look again, and loaded the Free Flight Quick Mission into ME, and could see there were 8 Mirage jets on the ramp, along with a few vehicles. They were the cause of the 4 million.

But it goes from 300k to 4M even at, dunno 3-4 miles distance, and even when flying really close to them down there, the Tris count barely moves from 4M. So does seem like a LOD issue.

DId a quick test, one plane on the ramp, and when looking away from it, I had 60K, and when looking the same direction, but with the Mirage in view, it would be over 500K. Then moving back and back and back, to see if a LOD would kick in, I never got below 500K.

Then did the same with the F-15 and F5-E. Both would be in the 300K ballpark, but when moving away, the scene Tris count wouldnt go much above 300k. So does in this case sound like a Mirage LOD issue. And who knows, if other suffer the same?

The M-2000C LOD models are not ready yet. They should be ready for next update.

If you don't mind me asking what does LOD stand for?

LOD = Level Of Detail.

They are a series of models that are displayed based on distance to the observer. These models are smaller and simpler than the main one. They are used to minimize engine rendering work.
