GG, Now i understand why know a thing or two about flying & aircraft..:)

Me.. I think i started with Falcon back when i even didn't understand english.. Also Chuck Yeagers Air Combat is a legend for me:) Then i switched to civil aviation and MSFS 4 to 98. Then i got Flanker 1, had trouble firing missiles because i still didn't know english well enough.. I think it took about a year for me to actually understand how to detect, lock and eventually fire at other aircraft:) After that i stopped flight simming for a few years, flew only few hours with Flanker 2. Bought lomac few months after release, and here i am now..:)

Jet Sims

Falcon3 The first Combat Jet "Simulation"

EF2000 by DiD. The first "Clickable Pit" Here I learnt to use mouse in left hand.

F22 by DiD. An ok sim but quickly moved to HK

Hornet Korea (Member of the 11th Black Knights) Here is where I Discovered my Online flying skills in Kali.

Jane's F15 This was where I formed the 169th Panthers in 1998. The 111th never warmed to this sim but for me it was the best online experience yet. The Pig as we affectionately called her was a real handful to fly well.

Jane's F18 The magical F18. Even with its ordinary net code. Up until it was hacked to death. Some of the best online experiences were here and Janes Combat net.

Falcon4 1.06 Never liked it for online human v Human. Fun for ground pounding.

Lock On Speaks for itself. The best net code. Most realisitic flight models and terrain to date.

Prop Sims:

1942 Pacific Air War I think it was called. Very good for its time with carrier landings Hellcats and Zeros

IL2, Forgotten Battles, Aces Expansion Pack For a jet sim squad the 169th proved to be one of the most feared squadron in prop sims as well. 169th Dropped IL2 as soon as LOMAC Came out. It was just a stop gap waiting for lockon.

Falcon Patrol (on C64, not really a sim)

F/A-18 Interceptor (Amiga) --- hehe 1994... seemed long to come in 1989!

Combat Pilot (Amiga) ---- great campaigns, damages, repair and great immersion

Fighter Bomber (Amiga) ---- lots of aircraft to choose from!

F-29 retaliator (PC) ---- "Crash and burn commander!"

Falcon A.T. (PC) ----- "You can't fly this bird upside down!" It made me discover things like BFM, ACM and Sierra Hotel. great duels even Vs 3 migs!

Flight Simulator (3? Can't remember) ---- great flying around Hoare

unknown sim, maybe battle of midway? (PC) about pacific air war, never played beyond a "kill em all" phase

F-15 Strike Eagle II ----- great missions

F-19 Stealth Fighter ---- pucker factor!

F-117 ----- great game better graphics that F-19 but not the same appeal

A-10 tank killer ----- scripted wingman missions! :)

Red baron or Blue Max: can't remember which one. never liked ww1 flight sims.

SWOTL (Secret weapons of the Luftwaffe): great game, lots of fun even as B-17 gunner... after all t'was just a game, not the real thing!

Falcon 3 ------- still one of the best out there!

Tornado ------- again, one of the best ever!

Gunship 2000 ----- good game, lots of fun!

TFX ------ great graphics. it still played decently on some 486 dx 100 (with water explosions and 3D cockpit!)

F-22 Raptor ------- good game, good graphics, really arcadish

F-16 Multirole fighter ---- see above :)

Falcon 4.0 ---- The box said "benchmark of flight sims" it was true. still some of the best campaigns out there. unmatched immersion!

IL-2 Sturmovik: great sim, lots of fun, great immersion

LockOn ---- one of the best sims ever, spoiled by some trivial flaws

Gunship! ---- discovered late, but great game

Flaming Cliffs ---- same flavor as lomac. great sim but still retains trivial flaws

Hope I don't forget anything... one that I regret I never played with is Strike Commander. From the reviews it had to be a great sim. But 40 MB of HD space at that time was simply too much! It was like if today a sim needed 300 Gigs of HD space!!! but it had great graphics, great sounds and a thrilling storyline! (and pretty girls too)

Oh god... Now don't think that this is exclusive list but...

* LHX (must have been something like 286)

* F-19

* Raptor

* Novalogic MiG-29, F-16, F-22

* Flanker 2, 2.5, 2.51

* LOMAC, FC, BS

* Ka-52: Team Alligator

* F/A-18 Operation Iraqi Freedom

* Il 2 and it's subsequent addons

* Eurofighter Typhoon + addon (loved that game, graphics was awesome, although FM and futuristic scenarious sucked)

*Battle of Britan

*Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1/2/3/2002/2004

*Slipstream 5000 (not really a sim, but fun!)

*Striking Force

*F-16 Fighting Falcon (electronic failures were rather amusing!)

*F/A-18

*X-Plane 6

*Orbiter

*Red Tornado

*Falcon 4 (very briefly me thinks)

*Jetfighter 4,5 (possibly 3)

Possibly missed some. Some of the above titles, are only memories from childhood (LHX, mmmm), some didn't stay on harddrive very long, others keep on reappearing in it from time to time...

Lol, I know I'm sad....:music_whistling:

I don't know if it really counts as a "combat" flight sim, but does anyone remember the sublogic flight simulator for Atari 2600? It had those WWI biplanes you could dogfight?. That was my first sim, god that had to be either real late 70's or early 80's. I think I've probably bought or played just about every flight sim title for Atari, Apple, C64 and IBM PC since the late 70's\early 80s - hope that doesn't make me too old :) Man, reading the other posts brings back a lot of great memories.

cheers

he he, great thread :D

F16 Combat Pilot (C64) - Could never figure out what the hell I was supposed to be doing. Not easy flying a sim in Stop-Motion lol :joystick:

F18 Interceptor (Amiga) - I remember it ran pretty well compared to most other sims I had played previously.

Birds Of Prey (Amiga) - This was my fav Amiga sim. Primarly beacuase of the amount of planes and it looked pretty good for "back in the day" :D Any one else play that one?

Gunship 2000 (Amiga) - I was very impressed with the GFX, this was the best helo sim I have played. I have been yearning for decent helo sim since ..... Roll on Black Shark :pilotfly:

IL2+all its addons (PC) - Great series, still fly. Loved the damage effects and landscapes when first playing. Great in coop with my m8 on LAN.

Lock On (PC) - Eagerly awaited this before release. But was quite dissapointed by bugs and how demanding it was on my system. However, after Flamming Cliffs 1.11 (and the fact my pc is pretty powerful now), its like a new sim. GFX still blow me away some times.

Seems the Amiga was quite popular for sims, looking back. I remember there was one Sim that was turned out to be vaporware (for the Amiga at least) and that was Tacticle Fighter Experiment TFX. Screen shots looked years ahead of anything else that had been released for the Amiga. Any one remeber that?

Specs: GA-Z87X-UD3H, i7-4770k, 16GB, RTX2060, SB AE-5, 750watt Corsair PSU, X52, Track IR4, Win10x64.

Sim Settings: Textures: ? | Scenes: ? |Water: ? | Visibility Range: ? | Heat Blur: ? | Shadows: ? | Res: 1680x1050 | Aspect: 16:10 | Monitors: 1 Screen | MSAA: ? | Tree Visibility: ? | Vsync: On | Mirrors: ? | Civ Traffic: High | Res Of Cockpit Disp: 512 | Clutter: ? | Fullscreen: On

747 (Sinclair Spectrum) Flight model was up, down, left and right. Not much more you could

ask for.

Aviator (BBC Micro) Spitfire v's alien invader. As far as I remember Spitfire was fitted with

lasers..... go figure.

Flanker 1.0 to 2.5 (PC) Anybody remember the videocard specific game patches.

IL2 FB/Aces (PC) Great game, well put together.

F4/AF (PC) Plays on a laptop so good for travelling.

LOMAC (PC) Most played sim for me, and most frustrating.

FC to 1.12a (PC) Still potential to be best sim ever if its ever finished.
