Did you try uninstalling the Oculus software completely (for example with IObit Uninstaller) and then reinstall the software again?

Forced Auto-Updates are part of the Oculus Software, there's no "easy" way around it.

Strange, as I don`t get an update to version 1.8, and I have automatic updates enabled.

I think you should contact the Oculus support. Usually you don`t have to wait long for a response.

Updates are Rolled out in Increments, not all at once.

Some users get updates nearly a week before I do..

Still, I dont see any ChangeLogs or Threads pertaining to what's new in 1.8.

You mentioned on their forums the Repair Option to restore 1.7 can you elaborate on the method used?, because I'd like to go back to 1.6

I'm Running 1.8, so far so good, more stable than 1.7 was.

The Other day I had trouble getting the HMD to come on, reboot solved it, I think My Home and Runtimes updated to 1.8 then, and it required a reboot and install the new drivers.

I have a feeling the August 2016 update borked many rifts with the dreaded 'hdmi disconnected' error. Subsequently, I am looking to find a way to roll back to 1.6, however, I cannot find the 1.6 firmware.

One thing I recommend is to disable the Automatic App Updates on the Settings->General page and then wait until you see on various forums (this one especially) that somebody is having success. I did that for 1.8 and then rebooted with it enabled and it came in a few hours. I still had to hope I would be OK since it seems it is different for each system config.

OK - I stand corrected regarding the automatic update of Oculus Rift runtimes. I guess I just happened to be near the last to get the update and by chance, just after I re-enabled the Auto Update switch on the Settings page, I then got the update to 1.8. It certainly would be nice to ask to be near the end of the updates or maybe have that switch actually include the re-enabling of the runtimes update since I like to wait and see what troubles are being seen.

When you manually start Oculus Home and have the 2D window with the large icons of the different apps that you could purchase, the top title bar has the gear-shaped settings icon, select that (Settings), then General and the version will be printed out at the very bottom in gray font.
