BigMotor Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Hi guys, My Marvel SATA controller was acting up so I unplugged the SSD that DCS is on and plugged it into my reliable Intel SATA port. Most programs were OK with the swap however DCS will only display a small error window claiming possible virus or system changes, comets approaching etc. Any way i can get around this without reinstalling everything? Thanks in advance for any help.
Gierasimov Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Can you post a screen of this error please ? I suspect this is to do with hardware ID / GUID change as you changed the controller. Could be to do with the DCS protection perhaps (this one I'm just guessing. Can you check event log / application if there is anything more logged also check system events to rule out hardware - not likely though. BigMotor Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Did a virus scan-none found. Edited September 29, 2016 by BigMotor Performed virus scan
Gierasimov Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Looks like DCS protection. You will need to reinstall - not sure if it is possible to reinstall just the protection application (starforce??) It would be hack prone if it could though. Maybe it is a case of simply activating DCS module(s) again. Check activation documentation. I would backup my stuff (configs and any custom edits) and reinstall protected modules. I did it once with my DCS: A-10 some time back. Rudel_chw Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Looks more like a hardware error on the SSD drive, rather tan a DCS protection ... I hope that you performed the sata port change with the motherboard completely powered off, if you leave the PC plugged into the Wall outlet, the motherboard may still be energized. If you are sure that the drive is ok, then put it back on the original port and then deactivate each DCS module before changing the drive again to the Intel port. Gierasimov Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Try this https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/dcs_world_activation_guide_en/ Although it talks about 12 hardware points that must be exceeded I don't think this is accurate and still reactivating is worth trying I would say. Also try this: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/709/ This is not hardware problem. BigMotor Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 Thanks guys. I went back and returned SATA cables back to previous state. DCS ran OK so I transferred the whole folder to another SSD. Then I swapped SATA cables so that DCS would be on my large SSD but on the desired Intel SATA port. It works! Translation: DCS is OK with a hard drive change but freaks out with a hard drive controller change! Just need help with one more thing please- I'm resetting my desktop shortcut. Is it supposed to point to updater or DCS application? Right now I'm on the updater- it starts the program but I don't see any request for update. Is 1.5.4.57013 the correct current version? Thanks again.
Gierasimov Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Not sure 1.5 build version as I am on the 2.0.x but updater starts first in my case. Unless you want to run updater on demand... Glad you got it sorted out. I am an IT person so I understand why it freaked out like that, but its a shame I can't test it myself -- my Marvell equipped MB is long gone (fortunately);) Edited September 29, 2016 by Gierasimov Intel i7-13700KF :: ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI D4 :: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB :: MSI RTX 4080 Gaming X Trio :: VKB Gunfighter MK.III MCG Ultimate :: VPC MongoosT-50 CM3 :: non-VR :: single player :: open beta
