don't see dynamic weather being used...

I don't see dynamic weather being used very often, I find it adds another enjoyable dimension to flying. I'm not quite clear on the proper use of the cyclone v. anti-cyclone settings as well as the different pressure values to be set, I understand it directly affects the weather.

Any info would be helpful?

Thank you.

You mean Single Player of Multiplayer?

It's something, to my knowledge at least, that was introduced but never fully realized. I love it but the performance impact is huge for some.

IIRC the programmer that did the dynamic weather code left ED a long time ago. I'd love to see it improved and optimized because I love taking off from one airfield and having totally different weather throughout the map.

Didn't realize the performance impact.

I don't think the weather is actually changing at the different airfields, how it starts in the mission is the way it stays. If it's raining at Sochi it'll be raining all the time.

Cyclone and anti-cyclone refers to whether or not a weather system is spinning clockwise or counterclockwise. One of the major features of this with regards to DCS is how winds aloft will change as altitude increases. Anticyclone is clockwise and and cyclone is clockwise.

If cyclone and anti-cyclone refers to whether or not a weather system is spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise, what's the different affect you receive from one or the other should I choose cyclone over anti-cyclone in the mission builder?

Theoretically, in a high, cool air is falling, so the air warms and picks up moisture - so there should be a greater chance of clear air under a high than under a low, where warmer air is rising, cooling and dumping that moisture (cooler and warmer being relative to the air around them, not absolute terms).

Not true for dynamic weather. If you sit in one place with the SIM running in accelerated time, you can watch the weather go past....

Incidentally, the weather systems spin in different directions depending on whether you're in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere

This is good to know...thanks.

I think one of the reasons dynamic weather isn't used a lot on multiplayer servers is the unpredictability it introduces - who wants to fly CAS in heavy overcast skies, or wants to fly without reliable surface wind data from ATC?

It is however an aspect of DCS World that could do with some serious attention at some point as it'd add hugely to the depth of immersion - as long as that issue of surface wind info could be tackled.

I think there are also problems with synchronisation when dynamic weather is used in Multiplayer.

For MP, the same mission with a couple different weather patterns is much more 'dynamic' than a feature that is never used. :)

I can see where the realistic weather could screw up a MP mission in a hurry.
