Keep off the grass when taxiing

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble keeping off the grass on the narrow taxiways out of bunkers in 1.5.

I generally manage, but now and then I over or under correct.

This is embarrassing, and is a problem with proficiency, but it's exacerbated by the fact the grass is also some kind of quicksand.

It's most pronounced when the nosewheel enters the grass. Just touching it makes the plane come to a stop and it will not move no matter what.

It's terribly unrealistic.

I'm experiencing the problem in the MiG 21. Anyone else noticing the same?

That's just how ground modelling has been working in DCS for years. Anything from warbirds up to F-86 can taxi on grass (though F-86 will require high thrust to do so), anything heavier gets stuck in it for good.

Just practice not getting off the taxiway ;). Taxi slower, always think and act ahead, remembering that planes react to brakes/rudder/steering inputs with certain delay and after a while You'll be good at it.

if you reduce the weight of your aircraft you can taxi on grass sometimes.

Done it many times in the A-10C removed stores and fuel and taxied back on to the tarmac.

It's usually the Nose Gear that gets stuck,

Flip off the Gun Safety, Burst the Cannon, lift nose wheel and Throttle up. lol..

j/k, dont do that in real life. :pilotfly:

It really depends on the gear setup.. specifically nose gear and weight / CoG Position.

ie:

F-16 CoG Around Center, Weak, Small, Typical Airforce Nose Gear.

Hits the Dirt, Nose Gear sinks, Collapses, plane decides to re-do Landscape:

Later that Day, FJ-4, Naval, CoG Shifted to Main Gear, goes through the wet grass easily, though there was another angle that showed the nose wheel did dig into the ground some at first... but the gear did not collapse and the jet continued on rolling, right past the F-16 with it's face in the mud.

After landing we cannot able to change payload (mostly).

Technically, you can taxi to the weapon station, use the pop up re-arm menu, remove weapons and a majority of the fuel, then resume taxi to parking.

Scott, how do you remove the fuel? IIRC, the A10-C has no fuel-dump system?

using the rearm window you can ask for a rearm, you can then remove your stores and fuel to suit your needs.

Of course you need to be at a friendly airfield :)

BIGNEWY: my previous attached track demonstrates what you said

but failed, rearm was done,

then without weapons and an almost empty tank

the only possible ending is a flameout in the grass, plane leaved stuck in

(Repair lift up the plane, but this plane is not damaged.)

((I forget to retract landing gear to try to damage the plane.))

towing is a solution

OR

the magic "to takeoff position" like key that working on the Admiral Kuznetsov's deck :-)

-> the act not led to success, the file name is not enough precise

The track replay obviously need time compression.

Airbase grass: Krymsk.

I did say sometimes :) , it depends on weight, so say 2% fuel no gun ammo

the SU-27 even when empty is 38905lbs, the A-10C empty is 25190lbs

if you get the SU-27 stuck you will not be going anywhere, I have taxied on grass with the A-10c after dropping the weight.

I will ask, it would be nice to have a tow off the grass :)

IRL,

if you taxi onto the grass and get stuck at mission start, even if you towed out or managed to get yourself loose, You would not be flying said mission afterwards. The plane would be towed back to parking and need to be inspected.

in which case, LShift+R and start over.
